I like the shorter stages, makes for exciting racing.

No. He admitted his crime. Served his time over a winter and then retired. So everyone still loves George.

I get that, but he’s still exceptionally close with LA. Perhaps more so than anyone else aside from Brunyeel.

Vaughters was from the same batch as Hincapie and he was a regular on Eurosport for years

I quite like Phil Gaimon’s post retirement stuff and read his book. He was on Vaughter’s team and he came across as a massive jerk. He signed PG but then would not let him race and just sent him on sponsor photo shoots, then when it came to renew he kept him on the hook then dropped him when it was too late to pick another ride.

I think was David Millar that made the quip that no one leaves Vaughters teams on good terms. He’s a weird guy.

Millar got screwed over when he thought he owned a share of the team and got dropped from the Tour team in what should have been his final Tour

That was just before I was following cycling, but didn’t he refuse cortisone to treat it, but the lance got a backdated tue for his first tour win.
I sort of believe his “clean team” for ex dopers setup was genuine.

I read his autobiography a year or two ago. It’s actually a decent read, and he was very honest about his career, motivations and ‘quirks’.
He is no saint, and agreed on his management of EF, but I kind of buy into his authenticity. If that’s recently acquired or not is a different question.

Anyone catch the TdSuisse highlights? Pogi rode off on his own with 70km to go, finshed nearly 3 min ahead. So that’s that then? It’s like the group just let him go, and it included MvdP Are they hoping once Pogi has it sewn-up they are free to attack on subsequent days?
This is tedious, with a side of #notnormal

I saw the youtube highlights. It’s like he soft pedalled away, looking behind to see if anyone wanted to join him. But they just wanted him the leave so they could get on with their own race.
