I wear earplugs to bed.
I listen to music all day, as soon as I get up, the Sonos is on.
Goes off at about 7-8pm when the TV goes on.

Yeah i have music on most of the day, when working, cooking, doing the laundry etc.
Don’t run to music. I don’t really need it, and like to be a bit more mindful when i’m running. Though i’ve never found any earphones that work for my weird head/ears, so that’s probably a factor as well otherwise i’d maybe have an audiobook on during my easy runs (though i don’t like carrying a phone!)
You take music to the river?
I only really listen to music in the car, or when Zwifting these days. I have young kids, so like calm when I can get it.
Up until very recently I never ran with headphones. When I tried then always seemed to fall out. It seems that even my ears sweat!
I now have a pair of bone conducting headphones and they’ve fitted perfectly. I’ve been using them for podcasts, which I’m a very recent convert to. Also had concerns about carry my phone as I’d always been a minimalist, but the AfterShokz Aeropex come with a waistband carry pouch thing, and I’ve got to say I barely notice it (I added a couple of safety pins to prevent the buckle mechanism moving as it was working itself loose).
I actually found it quite motivating, I only listen to the podcasts when running and so the more addictive ones (e.g. Serial) made me run more to hear the next part!
Urgh.
I hate the “calm”
Cars going past, birds, the wind, rustling, bins, machinery.
Far too much noise.
You just described our lane! Certainly with the building going on across the road. The back of the house is quiet though.
BOGANs across the road moved the kids trampoline to the front of their house (their garden neighbours must’ve complained)
So now I get to listen to the noisy brats jumping up and down, screaming their tits off, from 1515-1800.
Then again from 1830-2100.
Noise funnels right into our garden somehow ![]()

I’m such a light sleeper that I need noise all the time. I have a fan on all year and I sleep with silicone earplugs, as the noise from my own head helps me sleep (that sounds weird!).
I can sleep with constant noise like water, waves, rain or any of that but when it’s quiet, even the slightest asymmetric noise wakes me up.
I never run or cycle outdoors with headphones, but I usually have some sort of a tune going round in my head while I’m exercising.
I spent a lot of hours in the pool as a kid when music wasn’t an option. Then I switched to rowing, where headphones weren’t an option either, even in a single. You needed to be aware of what was going on around you. I did occasionally listen to music on the rowing machine, but it was in the days when you only got a maximum of 45 minutes on a C90 tape, so if you were doing an hour session you’d have 15 minutes of silence at the end as you couldn’t turn the tape over without stopping.
I listen to music most days while working and cooking but not when running. Radio 1 Dance on the Sounds app. being my favourite for work. I don’t have a problem with doing that but don’t want my phone out with me and don’t have another method of wireless listening. When running off road I prefer no music.
Saw that. What a great name that guy’s giving his club - lucky @Poet doesn’t live in that town anymore

You’re a truly miserable bugger aren’t you!

I always say that if you’re that offended by other people/parking/noise/children go live in the middle of nowhere, with no neighbours and nobody can disturb you!
Where i gre up the nearest neighbours were about 500m in any direction.
Not bothered about parking or other people or the machinery.
I am bothered about screaming kids, who do not shut up for four hours each and every day.
And their chavvy arse parents who have so obviously moved the trampoline from the rear garden to the front driveway/garden, as the retired people behind them will have complained.
Just keep your kids quiet.
the only music I play when exercising is on the rower - it’s pretty mind numbing just sliding back and fore up the runner so some music is usefully distracting. have never run or cycled with music.
here’s one guy’s idea of having music on his bike - this was at a recent duathlon!
No music here when running either, only on the Turbo
It’s not 15th century Japan. You have a kid(s) right?!
I mean i’m being a little facetious here, there is clearly a difference between kids going out and having some fun in the garden and parents literally not giving a sh*t about what they do between getting home from school and bedtime! We have some of them on the road next to us that you can hear from a mile off, and i’ve never heard them be disciplined once.
My girls are encouraged to play outside, and they’re not always quiet. They get excited; they’re 2 and 5. But that said, if it ramps up too much or they’re just being naughty then they’ll get asked to quieten down a couple of times before bad dad comes out! ![]()
Even I had a tape deck that auto-reversed.
As that is a bluetooth speaker, suggests a phone might have been carried too.
Aren’t there Garmins now with music storage. garmin Spotify or something.
