Running Shoes

BTF rules for shoes follow UK Athletics competition rules on this and generally only apply at elite athlete levels.

Is that from Steelman or UK Athletics??

Steelman something to do with the drop on the shoes

It is the stack height, not the drop, the drop on those shoes is pretty standard.

For example the Kinvara Pro has a stack height of 42mm exceeding the 40mm allowed.

The drop is 8mm which is the same as near all shoes I currently own.

The Adidas is the following stack height - heel: 50 mm / forefoot: 41.5 mm (so a 8.5mm drop, again normal.

I assume the others are all over 40mm.

Stand Corrected

Over 40mm stack height are banned but frankly it only tends to apply to elite athletes who have their shoes checked - it’s almost impossible for TOs to check shoes of a large field of age groupers.

You probably 100% correct ,BUT if you at the front of pack in the AG cats and you got a pair of the shoes listed there is nothing stopping them DQing you or the person in 4th pointing out what you got on your feet.i think its a silly rule when you look at everything else that they let happen or to be used :innocent:

Colour is awful but can’t argue with £65 and my Salomons are in tatters. Two pairs ordered. Thanks :+1:

British Tri are falling in line with most other rule books as it started to get ridiculous, ie bikes, swim tech and now run tech. Why not, it shouldn’t be who can afford / is sponsored by the best kit, should be who is the fastest. Will always be an element of the former but slowing the arms race is a good idea.

I get it but the downside is constraining innovation , and the rich people always win one way or another anyway so…

so we end up like swimming in 2008 with ridiculous suits that cost £1000 and lasted one meet, but without one you’d wouldn’t even qualify for the final. there needs to be a brake put on things. I’m still concerned over the impact (both meanings) of carbon plated soles also, especially on young peoples feet

Yeah somI think the constraints should be on the single discipline sports, more flexibility for multisport madness - beam bike/bikini/platform sole lunacy for us, the rest of athletics can look like grown ups.

Some of those banned shoes are less than half the price of the non- banned ones.

Great for dry/damp summer trails and road :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I love peg trails but I just don’t run enough - I’m 1000km on a good year, and I’ve got eight pairs of shoes…from 22/23! Loads of life in em.

By those maths I’ve got two years and four IM/Maras before I need a new pair :slightly_smiling_face::sob:

only normal in a modernistic way…

…and alarming for those with small feet…

So orthotics are permitted?
