Selling a bike in the 3rd Millenium

I don’t think a p3 can take bigger than 23mm - well that’s what’s on mine anyway.

25mm Conti 5000s on my P2, clearance is fine but I think you’d be pushing it with 28mm

(or carrying it)

Nice !

I think you’d be pushing it with 26 mm turbo cottons !
That’s tight it’s normally the rear stays bb junction were it rubs?

yeah, there’s ok clearance to the side with 25mm tyres, and front -back clearance is fine too, its adjustable by a screw near the axel so there’s a bit more play if needed.

I think 28mm would be asking for trouble though

28 “s
I have some gp4000”s that have 28 mm written in them ..!
Got them for pennies as there false
There nearer 30 mm front fits just ..!
Rear no chance
It makes a huge difference comfort wise on a ride but then realised if I pictured I’d be a world of shit
So went back to 28”s

That looks similar to my p3 - I think they do have one of those adjustable screws that sets the rear wheel.

Not actually sure though, mines been sat on the turbo since September.

I saw a post on LinkedIn today about Cycle Exchange raising £2.4m from a VC investor.

that sounds like a lot for a company that buys and sells 2nd hand bikes

:man_shrugging:

They operate out of the same premises as the coffee shop in Kingston that I usually stop at after my long rides and they usually have some nice looking bikes. They sell on a lot of pro team bikes and most of them look like new.

HotChillee used to sell on some of their ex-team bikes through them, but only after they’d tried to sell them directly because the purchase price was never that great.

I guess they cater for people who want to buy a high end bike but don’t want to pay new bike prices and they offer a service to the affluent customers who change their high end bikes frequently and don’t want the grief of selling them themselves

They also offer rock bottom prices for anything you try and sell, I think they offered £700 for the trinity I recently sold that hadn’t been taken out of the box.

Clearly a market though and an easy way for people to move their bikes on without the faff of eBay etc.

I think I saw somewhere that they had a partnership with Sigma, presumably to help people part-ex their old bikes when they buy a new one?

They seem to have become a lot more visible the past couple years. I bought through them and thought Poet had recommended them too, but I wasn’t hugely impressed. Relatively competitive second hand price and quick delivery, but I wanted more peace of mind for having it supposedly checked over/guaranteed by a bike shop for the markup. The bike had minor issues that I would have have expected to have been found in a basic service (wheel out of true, bar tape poorly applied, a missing bar end) and has obviously been crashed in the past which I didn’t know before it arrived.

Agree that their pool of people selling through them must be limited to those who can afford to lose a lot for the convenience though.

The “Lease-a-bike” sponsor part of the Visma pro cycling team is a PCP facilitation company that has been established in Belgium and the Netherlands that is keeping their cycling industry afloat. It’s through your employer like our cycle to work, but it’s a genuine lease and return scheme for bicycles.

Word in the industry is that it is heading our way and will likely benefit companies like Cycle Exchange as they will be the recipients of the returned leased bike from the cycle store that has managed the lease agreement.

I think the implementation of leasing would have accelerated had the budget implemented the cap on cycle to work schemes but it’s still very much bubbling under in the UK market.

Russ Downing was part of a lease bike venture, not heard much about it so suspect it’s not flourishing.

Anyone on FB would like to offer constructive criticism on my post (or give it a like).

Mostly just need to off load and expect to be negotiated on price.

Ta

Edit. Seems to be getting a few likes compared to most things. Couple of messages… tho mostly wanting to bits of the sale.

I’m not on the 'Book so can’t comment on the add, but reckon someone will snap that up quickly at that price

It seemed to be the bottom end of the budget stuff.

It is 14 years old mind !! And hardly state of the art. Hoping the package made it stand out a bit.

Bike doesn’t owe me anything. Cost £2k back in 2012!!

Think we might be sold. Student getting into Tri, so I’ve raided the shelves to help him out

I’m so bad at selling things

Only had one chancer. Told him I had plenty of interest so declined his offer. What’s the lowest you’ll take… well the asking price whilst I’ve got loads of interest :person_shrugging:

Is that marketplace? Just looks like a post in a group to me.

£600 seems like a great entry to tri bikes to me. As long as it’s functional someone should buy.

Just a Triathlon selling group. Hopefully less caveman like than generic marketplace.

Tho yes, I do seem to now be coaching numerous people in what these bikes are suitable for, who they will fit, no I don’t have any flat pedals for it etc etc :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
