I signed-up to the Summit free trial thinking that they didn’t have any payment details, so at the end of the trial I could make the call on whether to keep it or not.

From an e-mail I got on friday, it looks like they’ve billed me for a subscription through the Apple app store :rage:

TBH, I probably would have continued with the premium subscription because I found the loss of functionality annoying, but it would have been nice to at least have the choice of not carrying on

For me, it was very clear on my profile that it would be billed on a certain date unless I cancelled. I let it run and paid for the year. Like you I think it is probably worth it in a year of no racing, but I am not sure. My gut is telling me I will cancel after the year, as I am not sure how much longevity there is in racing my local segments. But for 2020 … it is at least something to target!

Yeah, it’s probably just me being a bit lazy and not checking my profile, but I knew Strava didn’t have my card details and it never occurred to me that they could charge me via the app store.

There’s been a couple of decent pros live around here… I can’t find a segment that is within anything approaching realistic for me to target!.. eg my favourite TT style road back into my town, a fast flat 2 miles that i’ve absolutely buried myself on… and i’d still need to be 6mph quicker than my PB…

They refund you if you log a ticket within 14 days of being charged.

I did the same.
Had my refund the next day.

Also, it’s now absolutely shite as a freebie.
The loss of club leaderboards and “Who I’m Following” leaderboards is the biggest for me.
We have a few informal joke segments that club mates take part on.
Losing that hasn’t been good.

I’m not paying £48 for something that used to be free.

I struggle to see what additional value they offer above the free version for £48. If it comes down to it, my decision would be to not use at all, rather than pay. I actually wish they’d come up with some funky new capabilities/features that made me want to subscribe, but they seem to have rested on their laurels for a long time now.

I’ve used a few of the route downloads recently.

Given they don’t bombard you with adverts every 6 seconds, it is amazing they kept it free for so long.

I use other sites for detailed analysis so don’t begrudge them charging for their service, I only use it so see what others have been up to every now and again, but if it has features you REALLY need to see/use, then £4 a month shouldn’t be a problem.

It’s still less than some 10k’s

My dad’s 78. He used to be a pretty handy runner in his day (2:50 marathon back in the 80’s). Anyway, he’s got back into running during lockdown and has discovered Strava. More to the point, he’s discovered this ‘local legend’ thing, so he went out yesterday to take a LL off a 12 year old who owned a segment around the corner from where he lives. I don’t know whether to be mortified or proud. Life in the old dog yet, I suppose.

You should get them out racing it at the same time, the local paper would be all over it, strava would send you some free crap!

I think the lad is much faster, but he’d only done 8 reps on this little local hill. So my dad went out and did 12 reps to get the Local Legend status.
