Giving strava due respect, the presentation of segments in Garmin Connect is nothing on what strava can do.
I’ve created a new segment based on one I run regularly. It was problematic to pick the precisely correct start and end points. Once created, it now seems I would have to go back through each and every one of my relevant runs to get the data from those to be matched against the segment. Otherwise, only runs completed going forward would be matched against them.
Representation of the runs is also much worse. Just a small box list, that’s not easy to navigate.
You can see where you gain and lose time on your “rivals” (they’re better uphill, slower on downhill, take more risks at the junction, but lose time on the back stretch home)
One thing that is still there is flyby comparison. Which is one of the things I’ve used most in the past to compare races to friends. For example, a recent zwift race:
I’m not sure which one you are talking about? The above screenshot is from flyby comparisons. The prior screenshot was from the old “my results” graph of a given segment
The lower one.
I see a leaderboard and can select people I’m following. I’ve never used it before, as you can only use it on a laptop. Just had a quick look on my laptop for a “missing” 3rd place, after their support told me to change the activity type to CANOE, refresh achievements, change back to bike - I am now showing as 3rd on the segment
I’m not sure if it’s a rollover from the fact I used to have all leaderboards set to “my results” by default, but the desktop version of strava is still showing my personal top 10 rather than the overall top 10 for me, despite the drop down menu displaying “overall”. That’s a nice little bonus for now.
Without that, I actually had my first example of where I might want to pay for strava, even if I only for every now and then reasons. On my ride this morning, I wanted to check just how the indoor riding had impacted me. Similar to how Matt has mentioned for him. Box Hill is one of the only known segments where I have, over time, repeatedly attempted pretty hard efforts.
Thankfully, the (likely unintended) results I’m seeing saved me having to search back through past rides for past efforts. A pretty huge PB. Shows there’s definitely been some benefit to the zwifting!
292w today with 172 ave HR. Previous PB from last year was 262w with 165 ave HR. It shows the dramatic increase in my 5min power from zwifting has transferred outside. I also noticed on other climbs that I felt like I was spinning up, 230 odd watts was relatively comfortable and I was surprised to see those numbers. Last year, that was a borderline threshold effort.
