It’s the New Normal.
All my sessions are set to private as default, I wonder if that is causing it, but it never used to.
Sometimes the segments take a while to sort themselves out.
On the desktop version you can refresh the activity achievements and I’ve found it’s sorted that issue before
Never looked at segments before. I dislike Strava for there being far too many for them, at least Garmin is slightly better on that front.
But looking now at some segments for a ride I did couple days ago and not sure it’s accurate:
That’s for a one mile 11% gradient climb, was needing over 300W to move up at 6kph. Garmin has 4 segments for that climb, all showing 240W so can only assume that refers to my NP for the entire ride rather than the segment, which defeats the point of comparing segments.
I always thought I saw the AP\NP from just that segment, but it could have changed, there also used to be a lightning symbol which indicated if you had a power meter or it was just estimating based on your height\weight\speed etc.
It’s a bit annoying when there’s so many segments for the same hill, I think there’s about 6 for Clay Bank. I used to get an idea of fitness by seeing how fast I could get up, but have my own start\finish point which I don’t think there’s a segment for.
As Adam says though, sometimes it takes a day or so for them to calculate properly.
I think Chris was talking about the segments on Garmin connect. I’ve not looked at them in detail to see how it reports metrics for those. There’s definitely less readily available information compared to strava
Just looked at same segment on Strava which is showing 312W, so definitely a problem with GC.
I’ve lost 2 CRs this weekend ffs. Hey ho.
Hope this isn’t too off topic. With the new Strava situation I’m thinking, if I’m gunna pay for something, would my money be better invested elsewhere. Training Peaks, Trainer Road etc. I realise they all have different target audiences, but was thinking a change might be worth investing in.
I cant see the value in paid for Strava at all. As for the rest I guess it depends on what you hope to get out of it.
Training Peaks premium is good for planning your training and tracking metrics.
Trainer road and Zwift are different again.
I pay for Training Peaks and Zwift. Get value out of both of them.
Strava is a social network. Not a training log.
TrainingPeaks or a free excel is the place for that.
Zwift I currently pay for, probably won’t next month or ever again (£14 pcm is a lot of cash for not much return)
TrainerRoad is properly good, as is WattBike.
I’d pay for TR again (winter)
But again, they’re all different and it’s what works for you.
I sucked it up and paid for Strava, despite my previous protestations. I’m considering TP at the moment. My free trial is just about to end. It’s got loads of data and stuff, but i am trying to work out if i will actually use it … or if i’m just paying a load of money for some pretty graphs that don’t really mean a whole lot right now, especially with no races! I feel like i’m in tune with my body enough to know what i’m doing in terms of load etc. And i’m not doing 10-15 hrs a week like some of you guys, where you may want to keep a closer eye on things. I’m more like 4-8 hours, and i can apply the usual basic principles … i know when i’ve gone hard, that i need an easy session the next day.
Think i’ll cancel Zwift now (see Zwift thread) even though i did really enjoy it and it got me back to enjoying cycling. Might get it back in the winter as i doubt i’ll ride outside as much, so the whole skewer thing may not be as much of a problem.
I’ve decided to try their 2 month trial after another email, got to admit some of the analysis is that good but I’m not really sure I’m as committed to the training these days, and things like Zwift don’t autoupload ATM.
I’ll see how it goes, I suppose it’s only £50 for 12 months which isn’t much more than a few trips to Starbucks!
My zwift activities auto upload to Strava?
Yes, I removed the link so my hard sessions weren’t appearing
Not too impressed with the weather info that Strava gives you when looking on a laptop. It was definitely warmer than 18degC today FFS.
Free trial coming to an end so cancelled. I just don’t use it anymore. Might send a few kudos but thats it. They need a new angle
I’ve been looking at the training load features a bit more on the full version, it probably needs more data to be completely accurate though.

Intereresting article, that isn’t particularly positive
