Stride Training App (Alex Dowsett)

Anyone had a look at this.

I did earlier in the week.

Interesting. The website doesn’t have much extra info available. The weather integration sounds intriguing, but I can’t quite see what it means. Hopefully more info appears over time.

The example training plan on screen looks a mirror image of Trainerroad. I don’t quite get the comparison table. It’s very biased to their offering, and undersells Trainerroad significantly as an example. To suggest TR doesn’t use AI, when that’s been their massive overhaul and USP for at least the last 2 years is a strange one.

Depends on the definition used for ā€œAIā€,

Who gives a shit, any tool that decides to advertise as using ā€œAIā€ are just grifters trying to get investment money not actually do anything.

Maybe trying to get into Windsock territory for time trials?

Machine learning is a form of AI, is it not?

Don’t start that debate again!

Agreed.

Especially when they don’t collect data for all the meaningful inputs (not even close or the basics) that can affect the outputs and that is another issue… even if all the input data was collect the result is often significantly different. Its all marketing BS imo.

Now in some sectors it makes sense, billions of data point leading to a known outputs.

30 days free no CC so I had a look.

Claims to predict your thresholds for bike and run… swim analysis to come, whatever that means.

Only N=1 but currently seems acurate for myself (unlike TRs, underestimate, then close, then over estimate, oh look how much you have improved BS)

what are the results it is learning from?

too much BS and too many drinking the coolaid

that’s not AI, that’s very simple maths using times and power figures. You can do that in your head in less than a minute.

Now show me the outputs its learning from to design effective training plans for individuals who all react to different stimulus in different ways and I might start to believe. I guess it knows about fatigue and recovery and what you eat and drink and temperatures and types of trainers and and and.

This was something I’m considering for my research next year, video analysis , maybe a starting point of the algorithms used to identify images etc; might start with running as a proof of concept as its easier to get footage in real world scenario, might be a bit tricky for just an MSc and I’m guessing uni computers might not have the power to handle this, but its an area I really think has ā€œlegsā€

Agreed… (Note I was just passing on their marketing message, their claims, I was not making any claims or supporting them.)

Pretty easy stuff, even with a sub-maximal PDC.

But that’s very similar to this…

From the TR thread I started…

"Hi everyone. Really appreciate the kind words on me and the feedback on Stride, we need it! The Trainerroad business is a titan and a real source of inspiration to us, especially the committed community it has, much like the British TT scene.

To answer your comments, yes, the homepage does not tell you enough, especially the phone web page. We’ve been working away at what’s after sign up features and product that works has been the sole aim before launch (we’re 2 weeks into being live now). We didn’t anticipate simply signing up being a big barrier to entry as we don’t ask for any credit card details or hold back any part of the platform either for 30 days.

We aren’t targeting replacing anyone specifically, there’s room in this industry for many platforms and everyone has their preference and there’s some great stuff out there!

We want to make coaches lives more efficient and easier with coach led AI tools, the goal is that they can focus on the important bit which is the human to human contact. But we also recognise human coaching is unaffordable to many which is why we have the tools in place for someone to feel like they’re maximising their training. There is a big training plans update coming soon to run alongside the existing plans.

The comparison work is born from my wish one day to have a real time view of where Ganna was pulling away from me and where i’d hold him, (much like race car games on the playstation where you could get a ghost view of your own pb or the fastest time by someone else to use as reference) then that way I can analyse how did I on climbs and descents compared to him, and cornering as well, the real interesting part I’d be keen on seeing is gradient transition, who’s fighting the deceleration as you go from a -ve to a +ve gradient better than others. BUT this is all based on him being willing to learn from others also, it’s a ā€˜give to get’ scenario with your files. But for team managers this could be super insightful to give points of improvement over just physiology.

Lastly on the comparison stuff as there was some skepticism to it I believe, the ability to view a group ride, TTT or race as a team event as well the individual aspect to it is important. being able to see the story of the race in data form as well as getting it from the riders direct, its how I’ve used it for some pro racing I’ve had to dig into.

Anyways I could ramble on, but enjoyed seeing you guys chatting about us over here at Stride, Thank you :folded_hands:.
