Sub 10 IM Thread

Awesome stuff. Congratulations!

Was following you on the day and thought you were absolutely smashing it. Missed your Strava upload though!

Wondered if you would get a Kona slot. Qualifying in August has got to be the worst time to do it. Proper last minute organising

Don’t dentists have administrative/reception staff for that?

That’s awesome @chickenboy. Good to see a long term plan paying off.

That’s a great result well done, easily inside the 10 good luck at Nice

@chickenboy amazing job. Fantastic!

He was meant to be a one (sub10) and done.
Nine IMs later and he’s in too deep :wink:

Nice one Dave. Great execution. And not the best day conditions wise from others I know who were out there.

Tough one to turn down the KQ, even with Nice on the cards. I went to the Copenhagen ceremony last year just out of interest, and did think it would be tough to sort the logistics at this late notice. It was actually quite surprising how little anything rolled last year with that in mind.

Well done CB. Inspiring, I think we were at a similar level a few years back so to see how much you have improved the bike and swim does make me think. But probably only think :slight_smile:

Congratulations - great performance.

Well done! That bike :fire::fire::fire:

Like Stenard, I now hate you :sweat_smile:

Looks like Copenhagen is a good event for it? Doesn’t work for me date wise though, until the kids are way older.

For clarity, I don’t hate CB.
(yes, I know you meant you hate me as well!)

For me, contributing factors to a fast time are:

  1. Fast swim - there’s no way I should have swum 61 minutes based on how I’ve gone in previous (and subsequent) HIMs. It was the correct distance too. I just think it’s “fast water” if that’s possible. Somehow, having the distances marked on the bridges also helped me mentally and broke things up.
  2. Short transitions. Allowing helmets on the bike saves a few seconds. Having bike catchers in T2 saves quite a bit.
  3. Fast roads. Not Mallorca / Lanzarote fast, but they’re largely very good.
  4. It’s not long like Hamburg! (but not short either)
  5. Flat run, with good support to keep motivations high.

Not hot?
Does that factor in?

Yes, good point. Although this past weekend was pretty wet by all accounts. I got probably perfect conditions last year.

Nippy :slight_smile:

And you spent the last 2 weeks pissing it up in Greece! :joy:

@chickenboy big congrats!!

…not sure, I said, “Dave, do you mind if I do?”
He says, he doesn’t mind, but I can tell he kind of minds
But I’m gonna do it anyway

haha, funny comments gents. Gotta love a bit of TT banter.

Definitely recommend Copenhagen if you can make the dates work. Just a nice place to be, full of beautiful people, ( i deffo help to redress the balance).

Course conditions were pretty perfect, no wind really, nice and cool, rain on the run which was a godsend for a hot blooded brummie. It has been warm on one occasion, but not Jorgan melting warm.

Do it do it do it.

I’m going back next year i think, coach reckons i didn’t push hard enough on the bike, lol, reckons there’s a 9:3X in me somewhere. I’m going to get properly dialled in to a good aero position over the winter. Work on some strength training. Aim for a sub 3 marathon in Valencia, try and get some speed back in the legs, and try and carry all that over to 2020 season.
