Sub-3 Marathon Thread

Correct. You’re not safe in the rural areas either. Our proximity to the M4 means that thieves often target the area, as they can make a quick getaway from the area. Usually vans at night, or houses during the working day. Fortunately we have retired people both sides, who are home during the day.

AG podium. 2:38 would probably get you inside the top 10? Or am I thinking over 45s here.

No, youll be absoutely miles away from that .

2.38 dead last year will net you 305th (not including elites).

45-49 will get you 13th in cat for sub 2.38

Sam is like twentysomething … so 244th in cat!!

I only really followed the M45 & M50 cats as a guy with a lot of mutual friends in Plymouth and works with my brother has won both M45 (I think) and M50 in London.

Stuart Hall. He epitomises the term ‘machine’.

The name rings a bell. I’ve probably seen it on some results list for races down this way.

He won Bath Half one year, but that was donkey’s ago iirc.

Brilliant running Sam.

Glad to hear they’ve caught someone and you’re OK.

It’s very sad that it happens. We are surrounded by retirees or SAHMs, so not too bad. Plus having a POS Scenic on the drive helps the crims with their ‘target selection’

It would be cool to sub-6 minute mile for a marathon…

2:37:19 is bang on

@stenard - a couple of quality big sessions on strava - you must be feeling confident? When is the big day?

Yeah, Sunday and yesterday went really well. 22k at MP (getting progressively faster) as part of my longest ever training run of 38k was confidence inspiring. As was last night’s 25k at MP (again, unintentionally building from 3hr pace to 2:50 pace).

Still got three and a half weeks to go. Final long run Sunday (20 miles steady) and then a 10k race around battersea park a week on Saturday.

I hate this point. Most of the key work is done, but now I need to keep ticking over whilst trying to freshen up. But this is better than normal. I normally feel like a marathon build is a real slog and I’m tired of running by the end. This time I’m raring to race

I hope you’re not going out with the sole aim of just going under 3 hours? Surely a 2:50ish in there based on some of those runs recently?

I think it’s fair to say 2:59:59 would be rather conservative at this stage, but the extra 5s from 4:06ish to 4:01 does still feel noticeable. 4:01s for 42k feels a stretch, but I did the maths last night whilst on that 25k run, and if I can hold that pace to 30k, which off the back of most recent runs should be doable, then even if I do feel the pace, I can run nearly 5:00 for the final 12k and still beat 3hrs

You’re in a training block though. Normally with a taper, and the fitness gained from these last few big sessions, plus the atmosphere of a race, that’s where you get the extra 5s per km from.

I’ve never finished a marathon btw
