The wheels have rather spectacularly fallen off. Only 2 runs in the last fortnight, both last week. I went over on my left ankle a couple of times during the cross country race, two weeks ago. Didn’t think much of it at the time and seemed ok. Had an unusual week at work afterwards, on my feet all day, up ladders, assembling and lifting stuff and my ankle just didn’t like it. Managed to run the ParkRun last Saturday but it reacted badly afterwards. Really swollen and painful. On top of that, I’ve had a really heavy cold all week and it’s not getting much better, so this week seems a bit of a write-off too.
The plan had been to do a half marathon distance by this weekend, that’s now pushed back to end of December.
Sounds like you definitely need to rest it.
Can you get some easy cycling in to at least keep ticking over?
Yes, once I’ve shaken this cold. The ankle has been fine for the last couple of days. Thanks just feel like
atm.
Good luck with thatm im half way through week 5 with mine and cant shake it
Currently sat on the sofa at home, feeling rather second hand. This week is definitely a write- off.
I saw that! Absolutely nuts!
I just realised this is the Sub3 thread (I just searched for marathon) so he shouldn’t be on here, the slacker!
ETA - Nor me for that matter, I’ll get me coat.
This has @funkster written all over it. ![]()
Illegal stack height. And probably one off / prototype so surely a DQ.
Stack Height does get mentioned here! Japanese man runs 3:28 marathon in wooden sandals - Canadian Running Magazine
Paris Marathon is on today. I’ve been watching Stephen Cousins’ training clips and build on his channel. (Film My Run). I hope he gets his sub 3.
Looks like KB is doing Boston, he’s been travelling for a few days.
Edit: impressive 2:42!
As in Kristian Blummenfelt- didn’t he do 2h30 as part of the sub 7 challenge?
No. @ykk he’s referring to…
aah… that makes more sense!
Yep, that was me ![]()
I found tritalk (the old one) when I was searching for sub-3 stuff way back in 2010. Stalked it until I finally got under, 2011. I posted my result and there were various comments that my ‘training’ was really just base building etc…
Anyway, 13 years later, I have now run 22ish sub 3’s (TBH I have lost count), and everyone I have finished (I have dropped out of 2 with a strained muscle) since the first has been sub 3. I am pretty proud of that and totally unexpected back in 2011.
I am not sure how long I can continue this, but I plan to run 3 or 4 a year for the next few years (I think)
Anyway, I thought I should run Boston, wish I had ran it when I lived in London rather than Auckland, but there you are, I never really expected to live in Auckland. But an opportunity presented itself, ie daughter away with Grand parents, so I burnt some brownie points and applied. Clearly the year after covid is not the year to fly as it is f*ck of expensive to get on any plane, but I think it was worth it.
I never thought I would think this, but Boston, IMHO is as good if not better than London, (yes I am very biased to London as well)
As Boston is small the whole city gives itself over to the marathon, (in Auckland they wont even shut one lane of a bridge after 9AM or something like that for fear of upsetting the car nob heads). Here they had a pop up bar in the main part of town.
I had read many many (repeat lots) about how the first set of downhills screw you later so I had planned to do a lot of downhill training, but ended up doing errr none, but did put together a 6 week block of with an avg of 177k a week but pretty much all flat running.
So, I ignored the advice as I am not bad at going downhill, went through halfway in 79:15ish with a target of 2:40.
I felt good, but knew I was on the limit (which is where you should be), but then came the hills (around 26k), I was hoping to get up them in about 4min/ks, but I was way slower, perhaps I could have pushed a bit more, but I did not want to burn all my matches and then I could not pick the pace back up for the final 8k run in, when I realised I was not going to go under, I slowed a bit more as there was no point in pushing.
Finished a shade under 2:43, second fastest marathon and am now just waiting for my Quads to heel as I have another one in 2 weeks ![]()
Well done Keith, that’s some bloody quick running! I was in Boston when the marathon was on in 2002, amazing atmosphere.
I did Boston last year and agree it is an awesome event. Very different to London in terms of runners but spectators all the way along the route. The 7 towns you run through all have a slightly different approach to supporting which makes thing interesting. I wish I had read up more on that beforehand.
Still a little bit deaf from the “Scream tunnel” ![]()
Well done on your time! ![]()
I’m trying to find a calculator that I’m sure someone posted on here that calculated pace. But it did it via building the pace and broke it down into sections. The idea being to start off slower and build pace etc. I wanted to pass it onto someone but can’t find it!
