I can’t believe they haven’t cancelled Newport yet but to be honest, in my mind, I think I’ve already checked out. I had 3 high volume weeks planned but am seriously in 'run 'cos I want to not ‘cos I have to’ mode at the moment.
Me
I think it’s just been announced according to someone in our club.
yeah as per other thread, Oct 25th. oh well back to 40km weeks and some riding
I’m due a 32km run tomorrow, but I’m backing off to 21km. Depending how I feel I might make a race of it, lumpy route but I might be able to make 1:50.
I thought about the local half marathons but seems like a faff and the family need me nearby.
Shame, although I struggled pacing the long runs I’d pretty much hit every quality run, cross train and strength session in Run Less Run Faster I was hoping to put out a report on the marathon results and training plan advice.
Okay, 21.1km +182m 01:50:28
Kind of happy with that, good to see the treadmill performance replicated on a hilly route.
The loop I used usually records as 10.5km, and two loops done in 01:44:35 made me very satisfied I’ve been running it for six years and occasionally records as 9.9km and this was one of those days unfortunately so I had to run extra around the block and a bit to hit the Strava 21.1km.
Solid stuff there @joex, glad it scratched your itch (as it were as well). Always nice to get that feeling of validation from the training.
Yeah, when the time is right I’ll use 1:45 as a half mara target next, whenever that is!
@joex did you transfer your Brighton entry to 2021?
Just seen priority entry opens tomorrow morning!
Yep, transferred as soon as they offered.
Im already not looking forward to winter marathon training!
Nice one.
I’m going to set an alarm for 8am and hopefully get in for £45
Got a score to settle with that race
see i’d much prefer to train for a mara all winter than in the summer !
That was the nice thing about a December race. Get the bulk of the work done when the weather is reasonable, but not properly summer like the autumn marathons, and by the time it starts to turn a bit more miserable you’ve largely peaked and are motivated by the pending race. I have always found the late December / early January beginnings of a spring marathon plan pretty hard.
I’ve done both a 70.3 and marathon in December now, and both of those have been my fastest ever times at the distances.
Not a fan of spring marathons, the ones I do just happen to be then. You do all your training when it’s freezing then race day it’s 25+ and you are wrecked after 2 miles.
At London in 2018 there was a 30c swing from race day to my last long run which was about 3 weeks earlier.
Yeah, another reason why I preferred going the other way. You’re coming from a relatively heat adapted state, and it’s pretty easy to then maintain that with some sauna time
Completely. Spring marathons are just bonkers. I don’t understand why they’re so popular and why no one plans for a warm race day.
If London had been on the 25th April as scheduled this year it would’ve been 25+ degrees. And everyone would’ve been “I didn’t train for that”. It’s the last weekend in April - what did you expect. And everyone still dresses as if they’re on a winter training run.
My training race in Nice was perfect. Then they postponed it
Brihhton Marathon mailed me a link to register for the race “that Ive deferred to”, but the link doesnt work
Yeah London 2018 was mental, we had just endured the coldest, snowest winter for years, loads of races cancelled because of snow and then boom, London was like a furnace (and with a bit of a headwind on the return if I remember) I seemed to suffer less than most though, 2:49 to finish in top 500, compared to 2019, 2:43 to finish 625th.
Sorry back on topic…
It was a bit warm. I also had ITB which I felt after about 1 mile, by half way it was a shuffle\walk\stretch all the way home so I just scraped under 4 hours. At least I didn’t get cold
2021
Okay…now that 2021 is around the corner…
My marathon goals for 2021 are to be capable of a sub-4 marathon, Im not actually planning to train at mara distance.
What kind of target times at 5k, 10k and half marathon can I set for a 3:45 marathon or 3:30?
