I’ve got a London spot this year.
If that doesn’t go ahead for any reason I could probably suffer through another 10/11 laps of it

Sanity check - I understand the majority of marathon training should not be as fast as marathon pace, so if a 3:30 marathon is 4:59/km is an easy run pace of 5:20/km about right?
Probs slower tbh. Another 20 secs or so.
Yeah I’d say a good 40 secs over MP
With all the various events I’ve been considering and probably rejecting Im reconsidering Brighton Marathon, but I’d have to do it again under Ironman training (for Barcelona) which was a bit of a disaster in 2019.
I don’t really want to fuck up another marathon, and even less want to fuck up a sixth Ironman run leg.
So I’m thinking train as though it’s a 3:30 marathon but run/walk it as a 3:45, 9/1 ratio running at about 5:00/km
This was similar to my plan in 2019 but on race day I changed all my plans and blew up…so.
But if I can get through that then my chances of a 5hrs or less ironman run leg are significantly improved. Which would be a one hour PB
Am I being stupid and repeating my mistakes?
My easy runs are around 5.30 - 6.00
I think I am training for a 3.30 mara but won’t be sure until I get some longer runs in.
My 4.01 PB is really becoming an itch that I have to scratch sooner rather than later, so think i’m going to enter Phoenix Running Remembrance Day Marathon on 14th November, plenty of time to get myself trained up for a decent sub 4!
Get committed, then you have to start running more! Come join the 3-4 hour TT crew, there’s a few of us who wouldn’t dare to dream of a sub 3
I’m wondering if a sub 3.30 in Dec at Goodwood might me reasonable? Last Dec I went 3.38. (I think the course is 150 mtrs long) on short notice.
I have a 50 miler trail race in early Nov, so wouldn’t overly affect things would it? I’d need to lose some bloody timer first.
Didn’t you run a half mara the day before too?
20km yes. I’ve been bad at speed work this year and last year was on the back a fairly high volume bike/turbo year.
I’d be amazed if I’ve even done 1500kms this year on the bike.
Piss off Runalyze, I’m early on in my mara training plan and I could run faster than that now. I thinks you need to average 67km per week for 180 days to run a mara, which seems excessive. Currently on 45-50km per week for the next few before going up again.
Yeah these things are total rubbish I’ve found. Maybe if you had no base.
Ramping up nicely - legs felt a bit tired today, one long run at the weekend and with a recovery week to look forwards to
Going to throw my hat in the Goodwood Dec marathon ring and try for a sub 3.30. (3.38 last year).
It will be good to keep some kind of road/speed focus amongst all the ultra training.
FMD I don’t know why I watch this garbage, it’s like my version of IMJ.
This woman has no kids, a safe job, constantly moans about how hard lockdown was (try some homeschooling and redundancy!)
She was meant to be at E24 but was a no show. The latest mission is to Boston BQ. So for this, she has:
Free equipment from Adidas.
A coach.
A mental therapist
A nutritionalist
and she just doesn’t stop moaning. I don’t know how old she is but she should be pissing in a 3.30 with no kids and all that help. ![]()
Well done her - making a bit of extra doing a small amount of training. Must be so much easier with no children to plan around.
Bit of extra what?
She does seem a bit of a moaner. Am I being overly harsh in saying she doesn’t look in the best shape?
She make a good point on the oats vs rice thing though. I’ll do a separate post on this as I thinks it worthy.
She’s always been a bit bigger for a runner (says me!) but she got into a slump during lockdown, lost motivation and piled some on.
There was another ‘intervention’ last year where an army of support got her going again.
There is an ex Olympian (Andy) on that channel and a really good female runner called Kate something. I really enjoy their content but there’s just too little of of it.
