Bit of extra exposure, free goodies, fame, whatever she’s after. The socials is not something I could do but she seems to be making it work for her. I’ve know two women heading towards their debut mara who will probably qualify for London/Boston but don’t shout about it.
One in my running group was out on Sat doing a long run and saw the start of parkrun gathering, she jogged round it and came 1st female. She runs a bit but with no structure. I can only imagine how good she could get if she actually tried.
Not sure about Boston, just going off that’s what she said she needs to qualify. I wonder if it’s like London with a qualifying time and a faster guaranteed time?
I’ve been to Boston a few times, never run a marathon there, not sure I’ve even run there, most of the visits were in the meet some computer nerds and drink! I think it’s less like London in that it’s entry only via qualifying time and charity, there’s no general entry at all (might be for locals?) and now not all qualifying times are enough I think, so it’s fastest in each group.
Qualifying times used to be slower than London because of that.
She does absolutely represent that and that’s why I used to watch but now it’s just a constant pity party and she has zero reason for it IMO. No kids, a safe job that is the channel, she is literally surrounded by elite runners, coaches and brands that support her as part of her job.
She gets invited to travel and take part in events that the average runner with kids has zero chance of affording (Love Run in Madera for example).
She is a crazy sore loser (the challenges with Rick) that whole ‘vote for your winner’ challenge was complete BS.
She doesn’t realise what a privileged position she’s in. The old Anna was great, this version, not so much.
Thanks, maybe I’ll try get a 30-32k run in a week earlier and start cutting down from there. So 2 weeks out will be 24-25k instead.
Realised I have my 3 proper long runs in the next 4 weeks and then is tapir time. eek. Still don’t know how I’ll run the whole thing at race pace, it seems insurmountable right now.
It certainly is a scary time when you start hitting your peak sessions. MP for 42km starts looking just totally stupid. But, as you well know, once your body has had an opportunity to absorb the final peak weeks and then the tapir comes out of the cage and goes to work you’ll be in so much better shape than you think.
Remember to break the long run up into chunks, even if you’re just alternating pace by small margins, it’ll really help the time to pass and stop you thinking about how long you have left.
Well I’ve booked in to do Dorney 20 miler on the 12th. I know I can do it myself but the benefit of having people around me and not having to carry water seems good.
I’m trying to get some friends to do my central London ring route, canals from Kings X to Limehouse, river to Hyde park and then canal back to Kings X.
Then I’ve just got one more key long run to do this Saturday and trails are looking nice and firm right now, though need some long socks because of the nettles.
