Just reading about that. Better hip angle for the run… Guess there’s nothing in it with the drafting…
Yup, that was the plan all along I believe.
Skipper looks frustrated at the pace.
Spirigs team kit…
I just saw something about tracking on screen. Here’s the direct link:
Spirig does look part of a proper TT team. Kat’s group doesn’t. But then perhaps wearing your most comfortable kit is the right idea rather than something you’ve just unwrapped this week…
Do we know the bike teams? Kats people look lost. Spirigs pro.
Astle is directly in front of Kat and the three further ahead will rotate/swap as the ride goes on.
Thats not fast, i would expect the girls to swim 5mins, maybe a little more.
The female swims were not good at all.
54:50 and 54:43
What, that’s 1:26/100m pace, or 5:44 for a 400m.
If that was your point, then your message was badly phrased. It read (I think to many of us) that IM athletes couldn’t run a standalone marathon faster than what they currently run at the end of an IM. A number of us responded in that manner.
If you weren’t meaning that, and were instead meaning simply can they run a IM marathon faster, then the point of this event is that it’s not an IM. I thought that was obvious? The swim and bike is going to be significantly faster than what they’d normally have to do solo, and therefore they’ll have more in reserve and less fatigue when they hit the run in a normal IM. Hence, they should then be able to run faster / closer to what they might be able to do standalone
Even the mens swim looks slow, not ideal for a fast time attempt, wonder why they didnt use a lido or pool to take conditions out of the equation.
No, my point was that Joe Skipper was hoping for an Ironman run a few minutes faster, Blu fifteen minutes. And to be fair to myself, that is what I posted
…
…actually you are right, I totally posted the wrong thing ![]()
I meant ‘…can run much faster IM run legs’ but it’s harder to say. Doh. ![]()
‘Cos they’ve gotta be close to that velodrome innit ![]()
I get why they’ve not used a smaller loop, less turns, but a bit of a shame with the swim, really.
@joex - where you getting that from? Looks like he swam a 48:21, 3 minutes slower than target time.
He swam a 49 at St. George ![]()

ETA: Have the women really just gone through 47km in one hour? ![]()
(That’ll be a 3hr50min bike leg - smashing their targets massively)
Look, I’ve got Covid all right? ![]()
Come on Joe! ![]()
Just from an observers perspective, it definitely looks like the bike pacing approach is playing out for the men. Blu looks pretty relaxed. Joe looks like he’s riding at broadly normal race effort.
On the women, did I really see earlier that Spirag is on an adapted roadie with a road helmet?! Wtaf
Apparently she’s never road a TT. Doesn’t like them.
Only rider without a disc wheel to. She’s having to come off the bars to change gear, thought would’ve at least added some extra buttons on the bars.
Why is she changing gear?
(Absolutely off topic - but watching Hamburg, too. Jaysus!!! Those road surfaces are worse than over here!!!)
Teams not looking so tight anymore. Is it me (again) or does Joe keep getting dropped on the corners?
