Both mens teams are just getting faster. Joe’s team just did a 55.7km/h lap.
Is it going to bite in the last 50km or on the run? We shall see!
Expecting 28 degrees on the run!
Catch coming on the bike imminently.
Which they followed up with a 56.6km/h lap. I’d be fascinated to know what power the guy on the front of the train is having to do
Think Skipper barked at Blum. Think that’s from this podcast malarkey. He’s like an excitable 13 year old! ![]()

Has Blum speeded up or Joe slowed down following the pass? Only 10 seconds gap
Yeah, I thought they’d speed up, and it seems like the have. The question is, was that planned, knowing Blu can outrun Joe so just keep him in range, or have his pacers got a bit excited and are pushing him a bit deeper than he wanted?
How much time do we realistically think Joe needs not to just be passed in the first 10k?
Context:
Joe’s Lap 5 through to 14 are faster than Victor Campaneats World Hour Record.
Extrapolated, Joe would be on for 55.48km working back from the end of lap 15 to the final 3.28km of Lap 5 ![]()

A previous article scoffed at his 3:20 target, citing the World Hour Record as a reason he could not do it.
What’s stopping them hitching a lift in the draft?
Rules and Marshall’s
Yeah they have to back off. Then they’re not allowed to repass for at least 1 lap.
It’s gotta be ten minutes plus right(to win)? As much as I’m loving this bike he only passed them at the halfway so it’s a handful of minutes at most in T2 no?
I didn’t realise Blum was that much faster than Joe on the run. Joe’s a strong runner so I’m surprised.
Joe was over 5mins down out of the water, and lost another 20s in T1. So he actually has made up quite a bit. 4-5mins isn’t entirely out of the question, depends if they can crank it up.
That’s probably not enough tho
That’s the big question. Joe has sent a target time that’s not too dissimilar to what he’s done in an IM. Blu has set a crazy fast time, but something he has no (current) pedigree to say he can actually run. Other than his own numbers in training
Joe will currently have 4:19 coming into T2.
So he’ll be caught at 15.23km by Blu.
To not get caught, Joe will need nearly 12 minutes on Blu coming into T2.
To not get caught on the first 10km?
Looking at about 2:50 ![]()
That’s based on target times I guess?
I personally don’t believe Kristian can run a 2:25, so 4mins would be a lot deeper than 15k in reality I think
Brownlee just said on comms that the rear bottles are purely for aero and were found to be a significant benefit
