Cairns itself is a bit of an overdeveloped tourist shithole but the surrounding area itself is beautiful. Very lush tropical rainforest type area, rolling hills and hinterland. The coast towards Port Douglass is really stunning.
Cairns is a great place to fly into and out of but I wouldn’t stay there personally.

You go there for the Great Barrier Reef really, imo.
Humidity bearable this time of year I suppose given the racing.

Yeah humidity is very low relatively this time of year, it’s middle of winter.
I would access the Reef from PD not Cairns but that’s just my preference. I really don’t Cairns much at all but could be worse, could be Townsville

That’s a fantastic effort. Cairns is no Barcelona and the placing tells how great an effort that was even if the sub 9 was narrowly missed.

Not at all, You’re helping to keep this thread alive. Your race shows just how hard a sub 9 is, and I am certaily questioning how the hell can I do it. Your swim was stunning, at least 15 mins faster than I am going to go. Judging by your place, your bike was probably pretty good, and you had a good run. I suspect head to head, you would be 15-20 mins faster than me.
