I would say it looks tight, but achievable. 1050 is not a massive elevation, even if roads are not perfect, 4:50 doesn’t sound aggressive @ 250w NP, a sub 3:15 run is good but not too aggressive either, stick to the plan on the bike, and you should have good legs. a 48m swim is mind blowing for me, however, you are several leagues ahead of me.
You probably don’t need advoce now, however, I will give some anyway. Make sure you watch nutrition, Gel before and after swim, at least 300 cals and 1L of water per hour on bike, Gel every 5k on the run, and plenty of fluids.
This I look forward to following.
From Trirating course ratings- NZ is 2m 12sec quicker course - which I find hard to believe though. It all comes on run though - you are a smart racer so I am sure you will give yourself the best shot.
Good luck in last couple of weeks of prep…………
Indeed. In many ways the whole race will be what it will be now - I’ve achieved 95% of my goal which is the commitment to the training block, enjoyment of going through the self-improvement process etc.
Taupo seems to have been unaffected by the cyclone this week, but lots of NZ has been badly affected. Hope @YKK is ok - think he lives north island outside Auckland and potentially at risk?
Think People would say the same for 245NP at Cairns on decent roads but I’m clearly a little relatively un-aero/heavy/slow at riding outdoor compared to indoor? So probably better to compare to my previous rather than purely looking at power number.
Been reading a lot about the higher intakes. I’m comfortably taking over 100g carb/hour with no distress. Last 6-12 months I’ve learned I need to drink a lot more than I thought so will be glad for cooler NZ weather and aid stations, although split my shiv bladder last week so will rely on bottles.
Made me check results as was sure I saw Steve couple of days ago. Was Mike Phillips from NZ in 2nd. He made the podium with Moody and Currie at Taupo 70.3 in December as well.
Yep, all good over here (for me). The rain about 4 weeks back was incredible, but luckily it seems my house is built with some ground clearance and the water ran just underneath. TBH the cyclone was not too bad in Auckland, it veered at the last moment, but out on the east coast it is pretty grim.
Interesting @Chriswim you say you are not sure where I live, as I think you are going to find out… by sheer coincidence I think you are booked into my downstairs room on AirBnb when you stay in Auckland
