@Mr-me not a problem mate. And yes, I’ve signed up
For next year. Goal sub 9:15
I already have a job ( 19 hours a week )
I hope to be on zero hours within 2 years or so.
Your much more skilled and qualified than me but on a day to day basis front facing must be pretty similar at times, everything from “ can I have a phone call my son died in the night?!”
This was true. Very sad. He got his call.
To “ I can’t go to work today as Ive twisted my ankle” next breath “ what time is the gym!”
(Unts!
I’ve mellowed with age, but am less tolerant for b/s. I’ll bet you get some right helmuts claiming they are on deaths door when there’s SFA wrong with them… they’d be getting left hooked out the door.
You and people like you do a great job still
I’ve been eating a shit diet, i’ve been drinking far too much, yet somehow I am in the best shape of my life. I am hitting running and cycling numbers I dream of.
When I said I was eating a shit diet, I meant just for the past week. My wife is in UK and I am really busy at work and doing my final training before taper… however, I haven’t really been shopping and just eating whatever is left in the house
I am also in a strange mood just before Kona, I am not nervous, not elated, strangely I feel a little ambivolent. Getting to Kona is something I really worked for. Now that it is almost here I am not really looking forward to the flight, worried about my bike getting there etc
Without wanting to steer too far off topic and my knowledge on the subject is poor…but. So its widely known that women suffer all sorts of effects post menopause and I’m only going to come at this from a fitness angle but its recommended if they want to be able to continue training to even a reasonable level that HRT is a good idea. Men can suffer to a lesser degree with similar. If you aren’t competing and are someone who enjoys being very active should HRT for age men really be frowned upon? I’m not talking about crazy levels and ‘stacks’ here. Again I am happy to be better educated on this topic.
Also outside my level of knowledge, but is HRT allowed with a TUE? I think that testosterone can be allowed with a TUE if it can be shown that you are genuinely low-T and need supplement. But that might be urban legend.
I am coming at it from a general fitness perspective not pro sport.
problem in the UK is a TUE is applied for retrospectively as an AG’er. You are tested and whilst queuing to pee in the jar have to fill in an athlete form and at that time is where you declare any meds, you are then tested but at that point get 2 wks iirc to go get a TUE that you may be refused. Elite athletes have to have one before the fact so when they declare T supp’s / Clen etc on their form they must have that TUE in place already. This makes it a bit more of a risk for an AG’er
(this form is where Mo Farah’s defences look shoddy as he “forgot” to declare the L-carnitine injections on his athlete form)
There’s info here
Basically I think you need to have an anatomical cause of low testosterone. Like having lost both testicles in an accident on the farm or something.
Just being middle aged or a bit tired wont cut it
This sounds dangerously detailed for an “i.e.” Do you have anything to tell us, we are all friends here ![]()
Never get emotionally involved with a John Deere baler, that’s all I’m saying
Dorset innit.
Par for the course.
Sheep are much safer

Did I mention we overtook another time trial team on Zwift last night? Can’t remember what country they were from though.
Interesting. That’s actually very specific that ‘andropause’ and most ‘normal’ causes of low T (eg over training) are quite clearly listed as reasons where you would not get a TUE.
I think it’s called an anti-aging clinic in America ![]()
In fairness to Mo, he was on his phone ordering a louder door bell at the time.
Enjoyed a skim back through this thread
and said I wouldn’t sand bag so here goes:
3 minutes to find, done more (aerobic) work this time round and feel I’m training faster despite doing it under higher training loads and fatigue.
Swim - Done 5 x 49 minutes, hoping for 48!
Bike - Cairns I did 235/245 AP/NP for 4:53. Running the same bike set up despite my 2013 shiv falling apart, trying to nurse it through one last race at ~250 NP. Similar 1050m elevation but looks fast profile, although people tell me NZ chip seal roads aren’t the easiest speed ![]()
Run - 3:15 at Cairns, 3:19 at Bolton in 2019. I’m hoping to squeak under 3:10, but any dreams I had after Cairns of getting down to under 3:05 (if not 3:00) are gone.
Gonna be a close one! Will give a training summary next week for how it’s gone.
Farking hell!!!
You cycled those NZ roads?
From all Pro interviews, they sound awful.
But you’ve done the training, so gonna be close.
You’ll be right up there though ![]()
Yeah, agreed. My memory of NZ around Taupo wasn’t nice smooth, dark tarmac I’m afraid. But you’ve put the work in, you just have to deliver on that now.
You’ll be riding to power no doubt, so the speed will be what the speed will be. Then you’ll just have to find an extra few percent of toughness on the run to make up for it ![]()
Seriously though. Looking fwd to seeing what happens.
Challenge Wanaka this weekend as well. See how they go…
And hopefully avoid the lurgy this time.
Bike sounds like the key to it.
Looking forward to tracking ![]()
