Thanks H.
It’s not a development I welcome at all personally.
It’s much easier to see, cross reference, and annotate sheets of A4 paper than a little mobile screen ! The fact the odd lane might be empty never really concerned me.
I may be buying a little laptop in the next few weeks, I assume that meet programme would work on that ? Assuming, of course, that the pool has WiFi…
A slightly different issue is the fact they’ve stopped putting event results up on the walls. That is a pity, particularly for those who have done well, everyone likes to see their achievments up in lights so to speak !
lanes aren’t left empty, that’s the point, and its to speed up the whole process. When you have 30heats of 100Free in boys, no point having 15 heats of kids with 2 lanes missing in a 6 lane pool.
Results are usually stuck up on walls after the session ended, and there is a results desk that gets them after each event so kid can collect medals. There is still lots of paper floating around, officials/TM’s and coaches all have lane and/or heat sheets, they just don’t supply them to people watching
As far as I understand it the organisers of the Spenborough gala at Leeds say they aren’t going to do even that. Mind you it’s a bit less important for my lad at this gala because this will be the first one he will be up against “the big boys” (competitive swimming wise) so I don’t think he’s going to be winning ! TBH the club he swims with now are more focused on the kids enjoying it and getting on as a group, which, personally, I think is more important anyway, as do most of the other parents.
I agree it certainly make life easier for them.
In my experience most modern “technological advancement” is more about making things easier for the supplier than the customer, as an example have you tried phoning any company lately ? Many don’t even have a phone number, and even if they do you are forced to sit in a queue being told you can use their website.
Really !
Thanks for that advice I’d never have guessed…
Yes, I was making a more general point about the modern world.
But, having said that, if they can charge for start sheets is that not another income stream ?
Exaclty my point. I love horse riding, like truly love it. But is there anywhere for me to leave one at work? NO is the answer. But horseless carriages, easy to store them while you work*.
Just for comedic effect, there are actually no car parking at our city centre office.
Im sure they could print a couple extra ones in the half hour they get between sign out and race start. wonder if the parents already sitting in their seats would go and buy them from the front desk, although I dont know one parent without Meet Mobile on their phone
They refurbished our local gym and they added two C2 skiergs. I had a go and really do think they would be really good for swim fitness if getting tonthe pool is tricky.
Hywel Towel said the same about rowing. I thinknthe skierg could be better because the resistance is from around the same place as the catch to in front of the thigh. Not the same but the closest erg to swimming that isn’t a really expensive swim erg. Never tried one so no idea what they’re like.
