Swimming for Hammers and Spoons

Oh, sorry!!!

Erm … Blackpool :tokyo_tower:

Endurance sets work:rest 2:1 so for a 100 taking 1:20 , go off 2mins, its about holding good form throughout.

VO2 max so ~400 pace for decent swimmers, closer to 250-300 for AG triathletes id be looking at 1:1 work:rest

ie the set above, 200s off 5 minutes, most would be aiming for 1.45-1:50 for the 150m , then sub 35 for the fast 50 (trp is 4:40 - 5 for 400)

All give or take and dont sweat the odd seconds as most traffies do; “CSS+2second pace” FFS

convenience trumps perfection.

off 1:55 (or similar) makes counting easier when using pace clock

Hows that easier than “on the top” ? Still too much like hard work for me :wink:

That’s the thing, going off the top/bottom after several reps it can get all Dirty Harry. Have I done 6 reps or only 5? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I’ve kinda lost track myself. But being as this is an endurance set I have to assume it is 5, unlucky punk.

Off 1:55 you just have to know when you left and know how many you have done.

(You won’t lose count after 5 or 6 but you get me)

Absolutely with @pacha here :white_check_mark::arrow_right:

First rep at the top, next one at :55
Then at :50
Etc …

When you’re back at the top?
That’s 12.
Or 0:10 on the wall board is 10 reps :exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head:

What was @Chriswim 's secret recipe for 100x100 ? Go every 91 seconds or summut & make sure you know your 13 times table?

I get you, coaches watch though, start, 2,4,6,8 etc  but yes i see what you mean.

We won’t talk about the time I did a set which involved starting at a base time for 100m with a comfortable rest, say 2:10, then knock 5 seconds off each rep until you miss the turnaround, then drop to 75s, 50s and so on.
After half a dozen reps or so we start thinking, this seems too easy and isn’t getting any harder, when we realised we’d got down to 1:55 and were going 5 seconds earlier than the last rep on the clock so had actually stuck at 1:55 and weren’t getting any faster. Doh!
Good set if you’re ever want to do something a bit different and all hinges on how hard you try to stay at each distance before missing the turnaround and dropping a length, it then gets easy for a while before ramping up again.

yeah that’s it.
You’ve assumed the same swim time throughout but you can sacrifice some rest for an easier swim at the beginning of each block, and hammer it at the end to try and make one more rep, the choice is yours.
I also found it’s better to take 30s or so to sort yourself out and recalibrate when you miss a turnaround and/or maybe pick a nice place on the clock to start from again, but not too long as the first few reps won’t be hard anyway.

Just noticed this, I’m guessing just a typo as you haven’t done it on the other blocks but you’d start the 25’s off 40/45s, wherever it was you failed on the 50s.

More like a darts player who’s had a pub education at following patterns! Although I was only saying the exact same as Pacha is now.

I have done @JaRok2300 set as ~50x100s reducing by 1s per rep. Managed to run the lane myself for the first half but was glad when the coach took over as it started heating up.
