You’re lucky if you don’t get slow swimmers who push off just as a faster swimmer is coming in to turn…
I cannot understand them TBH because personally I do not like having a swimmer on my feet, even worse them having to overtake me in a crowded lane.
perhaps they are they for different reasons…
Santa came good with a tempo trainer.
Got some work to do in the New Year now to hit some swim time targets
Nice jammies, but maybe expecting jammers…?
I find when I go with my boy and I am mainly coaching him, or just playing with him, that I need to go at least once, sometimes more than once, during the one hour session.
But when I go and train hard I not only do not need to go during the session I sometimes don’t even need to go afterwards.
I have concluded that, when working hard, one is actually sweating it out ?
Quick swimming question…
Ear plugs. Does anyone use them? My wife has started having issues with water in the ear so is looking for some. She’s for quite small ears. Saw some putty ones but they say they only last 2 weeks!
Ta.
I use these if she doesn’t mind putting things inside.
Edit to say a pair lasts me years unless I lose them in T1 or somewhere
They work ok if your ears are dry and you squish them in. Though they render you completely deaf.
Gold standard is to go get some moulded custom ones at Boots but £££.
I use these:
Mack’s Aqua Block Ear Plugs, Pack… Macks Aqua Block Ear Plugs : Amazon.co.uk: Health & Personal Care

Cheers all. Will pass them on.
Hmm. It could’ve been worse. The fast lane - let me just pause to keep a straight face - is a huge double lane, no discipline but roughly swimming in a circle. I think a few people didn’t like my lane swimming interrupting their social gatherings and chinwags but no one complained. One person was actually walking up and down near the end of the hour. The fast lane.
But I got my session in so who is complaining?
Easy parking and changing, in and out fast.
Eltham can be a bit like that, but generally ok in the “fast lane”. The main chatter protagonists let me jump in or wait as “you are so fast” The unfortunate issue is I can end up being too polite and chatting along with them as they ask about el nino, or why I havent been for a while, or tell me about their bunions and latest visit to the doctor Last time a went a few weeks back I spent 30 of my 60minutes at the end chatting myself
You are Them and not Us! Absolute silence , no eye contact and stoney faced while pummeling out the reps.
SCM are so much easier than LCM. Comfortably 1:45s +5 for 6x100 and 21s +20 for 6x25.
I’ve just sent some forms to NUEL - they may let me in once a month to their masters for a £5 a time.
probably 2 - 4 seconds per 100 depending on experience of LCM for a club level swimmer
all good practice…you don’t want perfect conditions for training…
Theres a story that Bob Bowman stamped on Phelps goggles so hed have to race without. Whilst its slightly embellished Bob said he warned Phelps about leaving goggles on pool deck then accidentally stepped on them. Phelps had to swim without in a minor meet which meant he “practiced” being stressed in competition and learnt a valuable lesson about kit.
Also got a story pre Olympics this year, Duncan Scott was doing TRP broken 100s, and the coach was deliberately adding a few seconds on to each time to get him stressed and then angry. Very clever psychology at play.
If it works…
Duncan seemed to do well in Paris, not sure on the Phelps blokes Olympic record though
Yep…but the point is how many get broken along the way…
Is it better to crumble in training than an Olympic final?
