Apparently all children must be able to swim by secondary school, i doubt 50% are able to. But £££££££

London Regional Long Course Champs started this week. 7.40 at LAC and off i went to Viccy Park for a nice walk in the sun (no running at mo) 8km, then back to find out a second WU for 30minutes at 11 so in hindsight didnt need to get up so early
200Breast today; all about process and no time goals in Br. currently. WIP , goal was easy speed 100, build effort to end but hold form, look good. Had second part nailed with a good glide throughout. 4seconds outside pb, times will come as drastic change in form often comes with loss of speed. Hindsight, 2nd / 3rd length was too conservative, went out in 37 easy speed, should be holding rest at 42s (has been holding 50s at 200pace/ 39 in training) which would be close to national standard but did 46,45,44points. (Sub 2.42 would get you in 16AG nats currently) Trust the process. 100br/50bk next weekend and both hes now looking good at. Needs to go out 35pt and hold it back. 50Bk wants 29point. I said 30point LCM is good as hes no sprinter yet and relies on UW.

its still fast and not taking anything away but there was a slight assistance, Still crazy fast though

What’s the best way to learn something from the difference between your SCM LCM times?

Compare max efforts?

I’ve looked at easy pace between two swims which isn’t easy to correlate. 400s and 500s looks like I’m losing something like 3s per 50. That seems quite high.

400 LCM 46-49spm 58.7s/50m 133-134 avg bpm
500 SCM 47spm 55.2s/50m 127-134avg bpm

If that make sense and I am losing 6-7s per 100 moving to LCM what can I learn from that and adapt to reduce?

It is, 1-2secs a 100 is normal for decent freestyle/backstroke swimmers, other strokes vary, fly 2, breast 2-3

Its down to aerobic capacity, you get less “rest” especially if touch turning. This means at about 30m your stroke is likely to drop off so that 20 of every 50 is swam fatigued with worse technique.

To improve, practice. Its why kids in the SE always struggle comparatively to say kids in SW LCM. We dont have the pools to train and race more regularly.

Given I did most of my training in the 50 at LAC last year I guess I’m not expecting that, although my volume was low. Also, I’ve recently topped up my turns in SCM so maybe part of that gap is weaker turns until I can nail them at LAC. Is there something in the stats that would show something slowing within a lap? Everything I’m looking at seems to be taking the lap as atomic, and includes the turns?

I love watching IM partly because you get to see the difference between the strokes, this is a great race from a couple of days ago

“The swimmers event” 4IM is my favourite to watch, as you can rarely tell who is in front due to different strengths and weaknesses! Except Leon who is decent all round

I’ve watched a few videos from that meet on YouTube over the last few days. Ledecky seems to be on fire again!

Is it?. One thing I can claim to be a swimmer then. I’m still too scared to go back to NUEL Masters.

My one hundred IM has improved (again SCM benefits probably) I’ve done some work on my breast underwater to the first stroke that’s shaved a few seconds down. Backstroke still needs major surgery though one benefit of short course is that I’m not too embarrassed to practice it.

Pool rage is going to make a return shortly. There one fat middle aged guy doing continuous slow breaststroke taking two lanes up nearly every time I go there. Doesn’t move to the side, doesn’t let faster swimmers pass, never pauses at the wall. Needless to say he doesn’t quite make the minimum speed recommendations for the fast lane but fat chance anyone will enforce it.

Another guy punched me in the eyes last week while trying to pass this guy. Slow poke just keeps on moseying…
