Nah.
I doubt I could swim 6km sans pull/paddles
Nah.
I doubt I could swim 6km sans pull/paddles
3x500 with finger paddles today, as a time constrained quick session.
Interestingly, I was feeling like I was fatiguing quite badly after the first rep, but a 60s rest, and then the next two reps were comfortably faster (8:13, 8:10, 8:05).
The finger paddles really helped highlight how I cheat on the catch and pull when I start to tire, and effectively slip water on purpose to reduce the forces going through my key swim muscles. I might mix them in more regularly for some longer swims to help continue reminding myself not to fall into those bad habits.
Yup!
Which ones have you got?
They really highlight what your hand is doing, way more than the larger hand paddles. They require a fair bit of concentration - which is probably a good thing!
I got these babies from Decathlon, love them!
(I also rate most items sold at Decathlon, never had anything be of poor build quality or not last from there)
30 x 100m off 1:45 (except one 50m after trying to explain pool etiquette to bell end…didn’t work)
Pleased with that
1km pull and paddles.
Nice , consistent
Bet if you’d gone togged up as Darth Vader he’d have got the message
Now, now, @funkster , nobody likes a show off
Quiet swim, lovely,
consistent,
not pushing too hard
. Stopped at 1400 to check my watch.
It had paused at 1km. MF.
It’s also counted a breast as a back.
Alternating 200s flip (3:50) and open (3:38)
Thanks gents.
Was surprised I was able to hold pace given yesterday’s efforts.
Possible bell end update.
As I was walking out, there was a guy who looked very similar in a PT kit chatting to the barista. This could mean he works at the club. If so, I may have to go full Karen.
I should have asked him if he was in the pool this morning, but needed to get to work.
500 of 25s warm up. Mix of fast and slow
3 * 200m pb & paddles.
Still getting back into it. Pace clock broken so no idea of my splits.
Best guess is I am okay for 50m or so and then it falls off (based on how it feels).
Proper sets start next week. If I can get my steady pace to 1.40 by summer racing (as opposed to 1.30 when previously race fit) I’ll be happy.
Good man
I’m getting annoyed at being so close to sub-1:30s, but gotta realise I’ve had loads of time off and give myself a break.
Could a daily update? Today’s bell end in the pool…
Like a sub-sub-Reddit?
An offshoot of both the rant thread and the swimming thread
If you’ve got some time, there’s some proper gold in here…
That’s far too good to be buried on here!!!
So I also have “walkers” in the DL pool
There is one woman who was in the pool for at least 90 minutes yesterday.
She spends 15-20 minutes “jogging” on the spot
10-15 minutes walking up and down.
My favourite is when she brings in a weight and does side bends in the water.
I’m not sure she understands how water works
I had a new variant today…
Steamy goggle guy… rather than just stop at the end and sort it. Kept walking down the fast lane whilst shoving his fingers inside his goggles to wipe em “clean”.
He also stood up mid lane at one point to do it 🤷
I’d swim straight into them
Is this why you’re so quick?
You’re actually outside in the 20m pool in your wettie?
6x200, 30s rest, for today’s main set. Not sure if it was working with the paddles yesterday, but was much more conscious my right elbow was dropping in the catch when going through my warm up, so made a concerted effort to try and keep that higher. Seemed to make quite a difference, about half a second a length. Did all reps in 3:15-3:16, so about 2s per 100 faster than I’ve recently been holding.
Was harder work however, and I could feel the additional stress on the muscles. I also could feel myself losing some of that form as each rep progressed, and then the start of the next rep after rest would be better again.
Just need to find about another 6-8 of of those type of things, and I might get back towards 1:30’s!
