Swimming for Hammers and Spoons

The outdoor 20m pool at DL is like the Wild West.

Only go out there if there’s literally no option

I went to local pensioners session yesterday lunch time. Big mistake. It was like the Star Wars Cantina in there.

Inspired by your 100s, might try that tomorrow 7am. It’s only a 45 minute session though so I’m just doing the maths about how many will fit. 25 off 1m45 sounds tough but potentially achievable, as long as Obi Wan and the droids aren’t there doing their thing.

What protocols are your pools using atm?

2 of the pools I use have changing at poolside, but you’re allocated a box & changing room to use & you’re allowed a quick shower.

Another 2 you have to change & dress poolside. No shower or changing facilities. Dryrobe type things are a godsend

One seems to be business as usual.

All have limited numbers in double width lanes.

My Nuffield gym is basically business as usual. Changing rooms, showers, toilets, etc are all open. They just have locked shut half the lockers to try and space people out I guess.

Swim specifically, there’s a booking system for 1hr slots, and I’ve loosely worked out they’re running at max 2 per lane. So actually, you never have to worry about people getting in the way, as everyone just takes half a lane each which is nice. The 1hr is not rigorously enforced either, I think as there’s a high propensity of people who don’t show up, or only swim for a small period within that hour. I’ve never once been asked to check my booked slot, and have gone 10mins or so past the hour without any questions asked.

Mixed for me and they closed the shower cubicles last week so I can’t get the chlorine off ma boys until after my lunch run.

My main pool is 50 minute sessions. They prefer changing at poolside, but the changing rooms and showers are open. I’m getting a bit braver each time, jump in the water a couple of minutes early, climb out a couple of minutes late, shower and dress in the changing rooms. It’s double width lanes, they seem to be slowly increasing the numbers in each lane. I think it’s up to 12 now!!

45 minute or 60 minute sessions

15 swimmers per session which works out as 2.5 swimmers per lane (???why 2.5 not 2 or 3). So, it’s fine unless the other 14 swimmers are Ewoks like yesterday.

Changing room parade around as normal but with blue tape on the benches every 2 metres

Digital lock and keyfob entry to changing rooms, exactly 300 seconds before session starts. Queue outside.

Business as normal at DL

So I started back last week. I’m sticking to the basics.
Only doing 50m & 100m intervals.
Engage lats
Body straight
Vertical forearm.
Anchor hand and pull myself forward rather than pull my arm back. Kinda makes sense…
Feels ok but still fooked after 100m.

Leeds CC pool for me. Pre-book, 45 min sessions, change in allocated cubicle and stuff in allocated locker. No overtaking, which can be annoying. Masks in reception

2 weekend masters sessions have started but I am currently too slow to make that worthwhile.

No overtaking sounds bad

Not currently allowed until 17th May , how do they get around that? We got 18 year olds in normal squads that aren’t allowed to swim either.

2,250m in 36:21 in a 13 degree lake :cold_face::cold_face::cold_face:

Currently shivering my tits off. Oh. And it rained.

No idea, not sure I’d they’re in there when the pool is only open to squad sessions and jot the general public?

Can get frustrating despite not being much of a swimmer myself

Yer not allowed any adult indoor sport legally, as a club we can’t even rent a lane and leave it uncoached, but they can all go to a public session at the same time. But those are the rules however strange they seem.

Bit of transition practice here this morning

6.40 am = alarm. Throw on clothes. Feed cat.
6.55 am = T1: pool changing room.
7.00 am = 25 * 100m off 1m45s
7.44 am = T2: pool changing room
7.57 am = sitting at my desk, having breakfast.

Helps that bed, pool and work are within a 500m radius.

6.30 pm = finish line… I suspect the main challenge of the day will be staying awake during the late afternoon. Sugar land caffeine likely to be needed.
