TDF - As it happens

“I use Alpecin because I want to keep my hair…”

Jaysus Pog is going fast.

I had him as captain and switched to Asgreen because I reckoned a specialist might have it over a GC contender. Pog is just showing how ridiculously strong he is.

WvA not looking like a winner today

18 secs up!

Pogacar.

To quote Lance. ‘not normal’ doesn’t come close.

He could at least try to make it look plausible.

Disappears from the racing scene entirely, does some back end bit race as a ‘warm up’, and wipes the floor on the first TT of the Tour. Yeah right.

Yellow jersey prevails!

I was watching thinking the same thing. I just don’t trust anyone who out TTs the 80+kg specialists, then destroys the 56-58kg guys in the mountains while themselves weighing 66kg.

ETA: I had forgotten about Matxin. Saunier Duval styley. Oh and Mauro Gianetti at UAE too.

It’s sad that there’s so much history in cycling that we just don’t know if what we’re seeing is real or not.

Apparently 3rd in the national TT, then manages to take minimum 19 seconds out of the field today

As Pacha said really. If he gets destroyed in the mountains then there might be a veneer of credibility.

At least with previous winners who did great TTs they (for the most part) rode the mountains at tempo and couldn’t match the accelerations of the climbers. With Pogacar it seems the other way round, the climbers can’t match his accelerations.

To the cynics, to the sceptics, I’m sorry you can’t dream big, I feel sorry for you.

Guess you guys don’t have Pog on your team

That can be explained by gifting his countrymen the win though, you don’t have to take the shit small races seriously.

Holy fook!

Are there ANY GC contenders other than Pog now???

All he has to do is follow a wheel and stay upright.

I know, tough ask in this tour

Boy am I frustrated that I didn’t pull the trigger on Pogaçar yesterday. I had a feeling he’d do that.

Yeah, Pog’s race to lose now. With another TT to come I can’t see anyone else getting close.

If it’s motors, then the magic required to avoid detection takes a lot of effort and risk.

If it’s doping, then it depends how much he needs to keep a passport within parameters.

So it’s not over yet.

How very dare you!

There’s no evidence against him.

er ist wunderbar

@whisk - the next TT is 30.8km and pan flat, but after some MASSIVE stages. I’d expect his advantage to be even greater there.

I won’t be pointing fingers at any of the great performers until there’s an official finger pointing, otherwise I wouldn’t watch the race at all. And doping is as likely in the underperformers as in the overperformers.

But I did say last year that the pandemic created a window of opportunity for a lot of athletes across all sports. So I’m still cynical, I just don’t want to piss on their chips just yet.
