TDF - As it happens

Elite sport is entertainment, many sports are still entertaining with cheating, indeed it’s part of the attraction of the sport as it adds variability.

The real failures come when some groups of cheats are more advantaged than other groups of cheats, particularly if non sporting groups are complicit in it.

The 2007 tour was really entertaining. You didn’t know who was going to start from one day to the next.

Well this is interesting…… that’s a powerful breakaway group!

I can’t decide if its too powerful to be left out, or too powerful to reel in!

If the teams of those in the break stop riding, that is going all the way to the finish. Ala missed the boat. There’s no-one in there who’s a true GC contender (well Nibali if it was 2017) and loads of TT firepower with Wout and Asgreen etc.

Woah!!!

Did. Not. See.
This one coming :scream:

“I’ve got yellow. It’s mine. I’m keeping it.
No. You can’t have it back just yet.”

Cav up for intermediate sprint then drop off? Or will he bother trying to follow the group over the lumps?

I’m happy that Gilbert is doing something, one of my more invisible fantasy team riders.

There’s a scenario here, albeit an unlikely one, where the breakaway stays away, and up the biggest climb Yates, (who hasn’t had to work hard in the race so far, so must have fresh legs) hits it hard, and takes an absolute hatful of time out of other GC contenders.

Are you guys watching this live? Just not on ITV yet.

Not watching as I don’t have GCN+ using the official TdF tracker.

watching on the GCN app

Yeah. GCN+

Also looking at Yates to do that…I saw his name up and there and thought “oh. Oh. Hang on…”

Big game of poker here for Ineos and JV; how long do they shrug their shoulders and make UAE ride on the front of the peloton

Van Baarle and Teunison are both in the break so maybe they don’t need to ride unless there’s some risk to the GC.

I honestly didn’t realise that he was even in the race! His best days are obviously long gone.

I can see this break going to the finish and UAE giving MVdP another few days in yellow.

The risk for them is giving too much time to a Nibali or a Yates and them building a buffer that Pog can’t pull back in the mountains and TT.

Nibali is past it although only 3 mins down on GC, Yates is 12 mins down on GC.

I actually think it’s the opposite. When Wiggins went from a track rider to a potential GC with Cofidis, there were howls of drug allegations (weight shedding etc) and when the Sky train pulled out of the station, those voices just got louder and more cynical.

Nibali getting into yellow over the weekend then?

Enjoying this massive break
