TDF - As it happens

Rookie mistake. I cleared my diary.

Every time Cav wins I got up two places in the rankings!

Massively impressed with Alaphilippe and the rest of the team.

One more stage sprint to equal the record, and then a sprint on the Champs d’Elysee to become the most successfull TdF rider of all time…. fairytale stuff!

Cav’s on a minimum wage contract with win bonuses, isn’t he? The bargain of the century for Lefevere is starting to look quite expensive

You mean, his team getting a load of stage wins. I’m sure they can find the money.

Bit of a shitter if he doesn’t make it over the double Ventoux tomorrow……(and rain/storms forecast).

Helped as well (not Cav’s fault) by the others being a bit shit.

As I understand it, he’s on a proper wage ( what ever that is ) for TdF not minimum wage as earlier in the season.

Stuck on a zoom call for the last 10k of that. Funny how I lost connection with 1k to go

Yeah, there was some shit about ā€œother teamsā€ trying to put him out of the cut.

WTAF?!?!

Who doesn’t want to see records being broken?

Bizarre.

It’s a race you try to win…

But does anyone remember what team won the green, polka or white jerseys?

Riders? Yes.

Teams? No.

But there’s prize money

And obviously people remember who wins stages, as you’re only wanting Cavendish to win 'cos of all the stages…

Pales to insignificance compared to the Richard Mille watches most of DQT are wearing.

The RM67-02 he was wearing today is approx £268k

I really don’t understand how it’s been monitised so badly. The TV rights must be significant compared a couple of mil in prize money. The riders are being taken for mugs

ASO, and if you think they take the riders in the TdF for mugs, see how they treat Dakar Rally entrants!

They’re really not.
See above.

The prize money is secondary.
(For the top riders, for the rest of them, €47 per day :scream:)

I get that the teams pay them a salary but in most sports, the teams take a cut of the TV rights in order to pay players. Unless there’s some other way that money is distributed through to teams, staff and riders, is it just the ASO keeping wads of cash?

Take F1 for example, the rights holders gives out prize money at the end of the year to teams which is used for budgets/salaries, football is next level for obvious reasons. Golf and tennis are more individual and the players earn money through performance. Cycling appears to exist purely on sponsorship.
