The 4w/kg thread

Without doubt.
Nice numbers!

Might do a ramp test over the weekend on Zwift.
Is it easy to find in that terrible UI?

Yes. I’ve worked in software development for 20 years and I struggled to work out how to use the bloody thing. Classic interface that was built by people who understand the sport and the gaming physics but that arent very good software developers, need a UX expert on it.

Nah, that bit is pretty straightforward. On the home screen go to workouts. Then the 3 ftp tests are there. Choose the ramp test and hit start, or ride, or whatever the button is.

Cheers!

Will see how far I am from 4w/kg haha

I did 4wkg for 17 minutes last night so I’m basically there right?

I’d say so! :wink:

Also any one on 3.5w/kg should be rounded up to 4 - it’s the right thing to do :+1:

Right - where’s that 5W/kg thread :joy:

3.7w/kg tonight. Trending slowly towards 4. I’d be trending a bit quicker if I could tackle the kg side of the equation as well…:pig:

I’m convinced my trainer is reading high. I was spinning pretty easy today, bur still showing 2 w/kg. But who knows. Maybe it it, maybe it isn’t. Thinking seriously about that ā€˜cheap’ power meter to go with the new bike.

If you think your trainer is high; it is !

I went the whole of last year thinking I was a rock star and smashing people; I would effortlessly bridge across gaps.
Alas it turned out my Kickr is 20w higher than my crank powermeter !!
Now I use the same Kickr but the power source comes from the bike PM; and its a lot harder !!

I thought I wasn’t too far off - FTP is creeping into the lower 260s and optimum racing weight is about 67.5kg. ā€˜normal’ weight is about 69kg so an easy drop to make.

Then I got a new battery for the long forgotten scales… :grimacing: :grimacing: ā€˜lockdown’ (my new euphemism for afternoon boredom cake) has added more than a couple of kg to my frame…

FTP test today :grin:

Pleased with this for a couple of reasons. Previous test were done on the Kurt Kinetic inRide on my turbo which I suspected was 10-15W too generous, this test was with my Assioma pedals of power. Secondly, my weekly hours training have obviously dropped a bit without a long cycle, long hilly run, lack of swimming etc, etc.

5min=336W@163bpm
20min=296W@170bpm
FTP=281W
Weight=66.5kg
W/kg=4.2

Cheers, perhaps with better pacing I will. I went out hoping to get over the 300, sort of died :roll_eyes:, reassessed & then rallied at the end.

I’ve always done best at these starting slightly lower and then finishing strong…

Some orogress - decided to do the okd school 20min TR test, I had a feeling Id do better than the ramp…and gained 6W :slight_smile:

Finally beat my 2017 best 20min power as well which has been bothering me - that was a 10TT that outstripped any indoor performance Id had at the time.

I had more in the tank at the end despite a mess up (507W!) at the beginning so I think I may be able to test higher soon.

Sadly Im heavier, so only 3.19W/kg. Still an improvment :slight_smile:

We have some rock stars today!

I took a rest day. Think I have done 10-15 days in a row, and last 5 almost all high intensity. Yesterday on the turbo I worried my wife! Hit 824 on a sprint, and 744 at the end of a race on the dash to the finish. Not bad for me.

Managed 4W/Kg for about 26mins on the Tempus Fugit TT this morning. Was a bit early really and my legs were feeling it by halfway and thought I might gradually start slowing down, but the opposite happened and I seemed to get a second wind in the last third and managed to increase the effort there - sure sign of not being warmed up.

Strange doing a TT indoors - time passed much quicker than a normal 20 min indoor FTP test, but slower than an outdoor race. Power was down about 10W from the 10 mile TT I did outdoors just before lockdown, but that was off the back of more cycling so not too shabby all in all.
