Yea I’d agree races over 45-60 minutes will give you a more valuable picture than a test. Is there any weighting/normalising to the average on Zwift or is it pure average?
Zwift Power uses 20% of your biggest 20min average during a race to calculate W/KG
Did the Zwift ramp test just now and got another chunky FTP bump. 260W > 287W puts me closer to 3.7W/kg. This block of more cycling is definitely paying off.
Makes me want to squeeze in a test somehow!
Nice work!
Managed 3*10 on the Wattbike tonight @ 299/300/300W, it’s got my W\KG as 4.00, but I suspect I’m slightly over 75KG ATM.
Was a bit of a struggle though. Got to wonder if I could hold it for a 10?
Jeff
TR ramp primarily, but also 20min test and I’m also looking to get a steer from an hour power attempt at some point.
I seem to be in a prolonged FTP plateau so I’m mixing things up as I suspect I give in mentally before I physically need to.
Are we allowing 95% of 20 minute power from Zwift races? I hit 309W recently so 309 x.95 = FTP of 293 so just over 3.8W/kg.
If the race was longer than 20 mins then it’s probably higher than that.
In this weeks cycling weakly Hutch says his FTP was 410w , deffo in the 5w/kg because he’s no giant.
I’m a big fan.
Read all his books several times.
Elite athlete who doesn’t take himself seriously .
Funny too!
I think he was 73-75? kg in his racing days, a British Cycling coach told him he should be 65…
I think he tried lighter and went slower?
His calves must be 5 kg each…!
I’ve read his hour attempt one. I enjoyed it.
Faster.
Excellent.
I learnt more from that book than All the tri/ fitness/ training books put together…
It’s bike specific but can be adapted for all three sports.
I found it funny. I even instagrammed this passage at the time…
Apparently he rode around Manchester velo naked…!?
I was never sure if that was true…!?
Been told by two local roadies that it is…!?
Great book
That’s slightly surprising, I’d have thought 71-72 but it’s not always easy to tell, but yes, certainly not a stick thin pro cyclist.
He’s done some decent running as well in recent years.
Didn’t he do his hip running a marathon?
Imagine his bike split in a duathlon!?
He held 6 watts per kilo for 15 mins IIRC?
Google says 73 kg so both not far off …!
Huge huge engine, but not as efficient as the very top cyclists.
Those hashtags
I always remember the bit in Faster where he discussed having his shoulders broken and reset narrower in a surgical procedure with a doctor who told him where to go…
Those calves were like cannonballs.
