The 4w/kg thread

That’s why I hate it when my FTP goes up

I would concur, but like you say it’s not too bad to test the waters after the FTP hike. I would expect to see more focused sessions going forward though (my 2p)

@Jgav what sort of increase have you seen at FTP and VO2 ranges? I tend to just adjust sessions on a regular basis either on time or intensity so I never really have a big jump in target numbers, it just gradually builds week on week

I’m back cycling regularly now. Tested a little while ago (mostly untrained) at 220W then Zwift gave me a few bumps up past 260W during races and I did a ramp test last week which put me at 287W. Hence large jumps mostly because of coming from a low base but that the workouts feel a lot harder now!

It’s as iower said - I wanted to do a sweet spot session to test out the new levels but didn’t want the Zwift SST classics which is over under for 55 mins, wasn’t sure I could cope with that. The one was a mix of intensities with a decent 24 min chunk at sweet spot.

Going forward, I’m planning mostly longer SST sessions but I haven’t given much thought to dedicated Vo2 intervals and whether I’ll build them in specially or just enter Zwift races and beast myself that way.

Duh, came legging it over to this thread as I’ve lost weight only to remover I lost a few watts a few months ago.

I am 3.10 w/kg precisely

If you follow Joe Skipper on Strava, go check out his recent 10TT down in NZ.

The power :tornado::tornado::tornado:

Love how transparent Skipper is.

Quite a few of his Insta stories he shows his Elemnt and his numbers.

Lol. He still follows @JibberJim

I suspect he won’t be needing to use this thread and will be well into the 5W/kg.

Yes, he’s pretty honest and open which is a refreshing change in this day of media trained tw@ts.

I like @gingerbongo 's comment. I would have just looked at the raw power without seeing the massive offset in speed between the out section, and the back! Also, great spot by you @Poet on the elevation gain. That’s mental! How can anything be so flat?!

So how many different ways are people measuring ‘FTP’?

-CP20
-Ramp
-Garmin measured
-what else?

I haven’t done a CP20 in ages, so my FTP is Garmin measured from Zwift races, so likely a little lower than the ‘true’ figure.

Have you seen the graph of the elevation?
It’s in like 50cm steps!

I live on the edge of the fens of North Cambs and Norfolk… If I head east from where I am, I can easily do a 50 mile ride with well under 50’ of elevation gain or loss.
It can be brutal in a strong headwind… (although I confess, I usually head west into Rutland and Leicestershire seeking a bit more in the way of lumpiness)

I have seen toes joined as far as the second joint/knuckle! (someone from Newport)

CP20, I also do a CP5 10mins before it.

What does C3PO think about that?

The R2D2 protocol usually gives the best indicator.

Don’t contribute @Jorgan, just leave him carry on this nonsense Solo.

Dude, I just want to Kenobi what protocol people are using!
