It has the word “windswept” in the heading
I toured that coastline during August one year on a motorcycle. It was indeed windy. And cold. Brzezno beach didn’t look like in that photo. The few hardy Poles that were sitting on it were all sheltered by windbreaks and fully clothed
It is lovely there though, we enjoyed it.
Having made it home, I can report that the east coast of Lincolnshire is the most boring place I have ever been.
In addition, Skegness is clearly a front for Hades itself.
Thankfully we had to do 1000m of climbing in 20 miles across the Peak District yesterday morning which restored my inner calm
This is probably a bit of a trek for most of you (Morpeth) but something a bit different, a 300KM audax starting at 10:30pm, late May so will be minimal darkness and almost a full moon if it is clear.
@Chriswim didn’t you want a unique event?
Not one for me though I think, like my bed too much!
I cycled through Newcastleton.
Seemed an odd little place
Been through Bellingham, too.
There’s a CoOp there. But it’s a weird county one.
Starts on Friday, too.
Which is pretty cool.
Although it’s north for me I’ve ridden a few of those roads over the years, usually fairly quiet.
Like new, too!!!
I was blown away by how smooth they all were
No cars for miles, either.
(Or humans )
Mrs is away that weekend, and I’m working nights Monday to Thursday that week. Acclimatised!
I put mine on the photos thread. You can have too much of a good thing obviously
Looks like I’ll be cycling along part of the south coast (LE to Lymmington) with maybe a loop of IOW to finish. Friends are planning to carry on to Dover but don’t think I’ll be able to afford the time.
Also plotting the trip to mid Wales that never happened last year; that may not involve bikepacking depending on whether a friend joins me or not.
You can have a photo of mine when it warms up a bit
Oh, find me a decent hooped bivvi too
Decent = Terra Nova springs immediately to mind. Derbyshire too Duck. Get it bought. Sub £200 on Google.

@Jorgan …
My KMC Aurora chain, Wolftooth 38T chainring and Sunrace 46T cassette arrived
The KMC-SL chain I bought last year is knackered and I’d like some easier gears for hills when fully loaded…
Put on the solid bar roll bag for the first time, too. Sleeping/bivvy bag in there.
Ortlieb Quick Rack on the rear. Mainly bought for commuting, but I’m going to test strapping my tent and may to it, in a dry bag, as it’s so light and doesn’t sway
Zip tied a free Ass Saver to the rack to create a mudguard
Currently rolling on Zipp 303s 700c with tubeless Pathfinder Pro 38mm (smooth centre) and Vittoria Armour Liners.
Not sure on the light/Garmin setup yet. I think I’d like to “fashion” a fork crown light mount and just have Garmin on the stem.
Also looking at 650b wheels. Probably some Prime or Vel ones, with TerraVail 47mm tyres.
Anyways…
How have you found the shifting with the Sunrace cassette? As one I put on didn’t shift anywhere near as good as the Shimano one, I think because it doesn’t have any of the hyper glide grooves
Not as good. But it was £24 from eBay. So no great loss.
Plus, how often do you actually shift?
It’s not like shifting is great with Shimano when the bike is caked in mud anyhow. Which is why I bought this. For gnarlier off road and easier hills.
I dunno. It’s not like I’m changing gears and thinking “ooh. This is noice” or “this is garbage”. I’m more concerned about how awful the Zipp wheel bearings are
That’s my experience, too - a bit rougher but serviceable.
I’ve just got my gravel bike out to get it sorted to do some little trips . Both tyres flat (tubeless) put some sealant in but can hear that air coming out somewhere . Have hardly used it but next step new tape and value (or I’ll just buy some inner turned instead )
@Jorgan / @GeordieM et al (anyone feel free to answer!)
Looking for a bit of a steer on temperature ratings for sleeping bags …
I’m wanting a light, Packable bag.
Currently looking at the Sea to Summit Spark 7C - as it’s about 400g and the size of a 750ml bottle packed
I run warm and will be using it in full clothing, with a down jacket on, too.
The next one in the range is rated down to -1C, which might be too warm for my spring/summer use case. Plus, it’s a much larger pack size (8L compressed) and about 700g.
Oh, my daughter will also be using it in the summer with me and for her DofE thing.
I’ve looked at Thermarest and a few other brands too, but S2S just pack tiny!
Thoughts?
This is for bike packing and I’m aiming to balance light with comfort.
We’re all different but for me that would be of no use below 9c if I was looking for good sleep. Only you can answer at what temperatures you’re likely to use it in, how many consecutive nights and whether you can perform well on disrupted sleep. The odd night being cold with poor sleep is one thing, a couple of nights or more becomes miserable very quickly.
Agree with @Bob. I’m a cold sleeper so I would need the colder rated bag except for only summer use. That being said I hate sleeping in clothes. If you’re wearing a thin down jacket then maybe it’d be ok. Especially with a quality insulated mattress and perhaps a Mylar blanket just in case. S2S make various fleece liners too I think.
