I am thinking of maybe doing the winter version next year with my doggo. She recently has done a marathon walk across the Ridgeway. She was off lead most of it so god knows how far she actually walked. This will be a piece of piss for her, and she can drag my sorry arse round.

I can probably let her off and she can boing along the grass verge. She’s a working (breed line, not an actual in work dog) springer so she should be able to find away

Yes, our Springer is from ‘working stock’. She had most of her tail docked!

Is that still allowed? Ours has a full length tail. When it gets wet and muddy its like a massive muddy paint brush attached to a Catherine wheel

Apparently so, if they’re from a legitimate working line. The breeder we got her from, had 5 working Springers. Gun dogs presumably.

I think this an aspect of trail running that takes folks by surprise, especially on tracks like SDW etc. The constant process of having your feet at different angles is really tiring and one that you don’t experience on the road.

Precisely. Although I did loads of off-road training, it was on bridleways and footpaths mainly, either that or through fields…no rocks. It really stresses the lower limbs & feet. That and the fact I pretty much could run all the terrain, even the hills, meant I acually was out of practice in marching/tabbing to make progress.

That said. I was actually strongest on the steep ascents compared to the others around me (Load & clean fatigue). It was the downhills & flats where they were making up time. The guy who blasted out a 2:56 way ahead of everyone else, was less than 100m ahead of me over PyF the first time.

I watched a clip of a guy that DNF’d Thames Path 100 simply because he said he hadn’t training been for walking and found the toll on his body was hard but at the same time, he was too tired to run.

Walking with purpose, as opposed to strolling, is bloody hard IMO. Tunster took me to school at SDW when it came to that. Very impressive!
