I did my longest ride in years yesterday (61.5km) much of it off-road and tbh it was fine. Only had a banana before I left and wasn’t seeing double by the end I just plug a route into my Garmin (to find the bridleways/byways); no power/speed etc on show. It’s great! Sure I ride some of it hard, but I just go on feel. So liberating compared to Ironman training. No earbuds either, just me and the elements.
I’ve tried to take the same approach to most of my training in recent years, primarily exercising and then a small period of focus if I’ve got an event I’m interested in.
I hear this !
With (hopefully ) a big big test this month running isn’t my main priority anyway.
Onwards !!
I recommend Wyre Forest… no sea breeze or wind.
A touch hilly, forest gravel hard pack trails, barge the deers out of the way.
to a quick time is the ride a deer for a km or two.
Anyone looked at the list for fast park runs
Wyre Forest isnt up there… Worcester pitchcoft does okay from memory.
Yep Worcester Pitchcroft is very quick (20:40 at 58) as is Stratford and also Aylesbury (19:51 late 50s, can’t see exact date any more)
As already said good conditions key. Aylesbury was cold but still so had to do a big warm up
Do we have an over 77’s thread? Dad did the first Weymouth Aquathlon of the season last night. 22 minutes and 31 minutes for 1000m/ 5km & it looked pretty choppy
that’s him in the white hat at the back
Fantastic, a tip of the hat to that man
I read that as 22min 31seconds and thought LA is still on
Well done daddy thief
I read it as 31 minutes…
I was thinking, what 13’ → 1:15 min/100m swim and 18min 5km (well a touch faster to account for transition)
Anyway enough of my inability to read. Top job, late 70s and still going after it.
22 mins for the swim and 31 mins for the run and an undisclosed time for getting out of the wetsuit…
no PEDs involved AFAIK.
He’s only 27 in multisport years though, a mere youngster, did his first race aged 50 .
Impressive stuff, you need to start training asap to be that good at 77
He just WhatsApped that he came 17th out of 25 starters… but 7 pulled out because of the rough sea.
ie. he was lantern rouge but hey, first M75
Also that he had fish and chips afterwards “to celebrate his survival”
I absolutely love this!!!
This is inspiration right here for all us oldies, namely me, who think that its time to hang up the wetsuit/ carbon shoes. Well done fruity senior
Tri talk achievement of 2025..?
My father is 2 years older and slowly dying of a breathing condition ( not his fault .. mostly )
This really is inspiring stuff, well done fruit senior
That’s brilliant!
Sorry to hear that Mungo2. Some parts of health folk get to choose, many they don’t.
But yeah, think keeping active seems like the way to go as long as the sharks dont getcha
After the whole steroid saga ( maybe we should have asked mark lewis ?!)
We got the black market pils which had a dramatic effect at first, he gradually built up tolerance towards them ( he did 5 days on 10 days off)
However he now has a heart issue so can’t take them anymore … he got 9 months of better quality living at least.
These are the cards we a dealt… he’s still a much nicer guy than I will ever be and always has a smile on his face, even during coughing fits which are getting more frequent and violent
( sorry for derailing your race report, nice to see older guys still putting a number on)
Car park filling up, and I’m struggling to see anyone under 50, let alone obviously under 40 (gravel cross)
Where be to?
