The Pain Cave & Shed Awards

It’s a decent bedroom fan. And reasonably quiet. Now I have a proper beast though, I realise what I was missing using it for turboing. The new fan makes any sweat that drips off my head go flying backwards it’s that powerful!

Is there any way I could make my magnetic Tacx Satori a little quieter? Only riding 100w it is not an option! The road tyre on there is getting pretty tired (hard/cracked), is a dedicated trainer tyre worth it right now? (never tried one)

I don’t notice any difference using a turbo tyre on mine but I’ve got an elite with the rubber roller. I just use old road wheels then I can still pop out for short rides outdoors/errands etc if need be

I had 2 of the blue trainer tyres (can’t remember the make). They were an absolute nightmare to get on the rim and I didn’t notice any difference in noise compared to an old road tyre. If anything I think it may have been louder is it would sometimes squeak a bit, especially when cold.
They both split along the sidewalls in the end. I think they were so hard that any flexing cracked them once they were getting on a bit. (Maybe exacerbated by using in the shed and extremes of temperatures they went through.

I’ve got some spare wheels with turbo tyres on for me and Mrs FB. not sure they are any better but as I had the wheels thought I’d keep the road tyres for the road.

still trying to work out how I got a puncture in a turbo tyre though - never sees the outdoors!

If it was a wheel-on trainer, probably heat build-up causing a repair patch to fail?

That is exactly the situation I had on my old trainer when I got my only trainer puncture.

A loose spoke may be pushing through the tube.

My pain cave is seriously feeling the heat right now. Last night’s session after it had a full day warming up in the sun was hideous!

#nofan obvs

ta for the replies re: the puncture but none of those issues apply. the hole in the tube was one of them micro ones that you can get when something has gone into the rubber and then disappeared like a thorn or bit of glass. nothing to be seen on the inside or outside of the tyre despite looking hard. the wheel had been on the bike for a time so no idea what happened as it’s all fine now since I put a new tube in

I remember changing a turbo tyre once and the tube had somehow welded itself to the inside of the tyre. I had to tear it out to put a new one in.
I wonder if the the heat and constant flexing against the roller can cause minor flaws or thin spots in the tube to open up.

don’t think so - classic pinhole puncture

Yes, leaving the roller against the wheel after a ride can cause concentrated hot-spots on the tyre. I always try to remember to disengage it.

Me too, this was just from normal use.

Saw thread on twitter. @doonhammer think you’d win this one, hands down.

I’m too modest to enter :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:.

It amuses me that despite wanting horrible set-ups, people can’t help sending in humble brag photos.
