Looks pretty good already!
He did it about 10 years ago at his parents farm in SA with the help of some local labour. The photo is deceptive - it is actually 25m long and he claimed it was deep enough to tumble in. Not sure how much it was used as the only follow-ups a couple of years later were of a stagnant pond and then a weed-filled hole.
There are lots of pics and a thread on ST on how it was done. Search for ‘Conrad Stoltz pool’.
BTW - apparently that was Sheryl Crow on his Speedos. No reason given.
His messages from the project seemed to be:
- Pool building makes you fitter than swimming.
- Swimming is overrated.
- Pool building is expensive, and hard to get right.
We knocked down a conservatory and put in a proper extension with bifolds and a new patio. It’s lovely now…but £60k later!
It looks bloody lovely though
Yours are way nicer than bifolds, as you had Crittall style done, right?
Yes. It’s been a godsend in the current lockdown!
I keep browsing swimspas, not got the balls to make the commitment yet.
we’ve got lovely (but not fancy) patio doors from the new extension … that we cannot use properly yet!
We were planning on having decking installed leading out of the house, as there is a 2ft drop to ground level. We’ve only got some home made (not by me thankfully!!) steps leading up to one of the doors. Can’t leave the doors open as it is too dangerous for the 1yo who can’t get up and down on her own yet. So even when it’s super sunny, the doors have to be closed. Also the stupid chicken keeps trying to get in to steal the cat food and you would not believe how many times a chicken poos in a day! Their nutrient absorption rate must be horrendous as all they do is eat and crap all day long!
Chicken or triathletes?
A 2ft drop from the door(s) to the garden; that sounds odd. Is that even allowed under building regulations? I assume there were some permanent concrete steps that you have removed?
No it’s just the natural slope of the ground that the house is built on. I can confirm it did indeed pass building regs (the previous lean to extension that we knocked down definitely did not however!).
I guess this shows it a bit better.
And yep - that is the whole width of my house!!!
are those window cleaners for hire? asking for someone…
Absolutely.
I’ll do you a 50% discount on the usual fee as well … as they can’t reach the top half!
Those bricks look perilously ‘handy’.
They’ll most likely be hidden under the decking!
I won’t do anything with them, and I’m not paying to get rid. Either that or they’ll end up propping something up on the allotment!
No-one else going to comment on what looks like a short maid’s outfit hanging off the dreadmill?
That wouldn’t leave much to the imagination!
it’s what they’re going to do with the pegs that intrigues me…
haha my Mother crocheted a peg bag. my God it must be 45 yrs old at least. I thought she was the only one that had one!
we’ve always had a peg bag - it’s very useful to keep pegs in…
You’d think so but Mum has a habit of leaving the keys in hers!
