YES!..… got a green light to brick the built in garage door up, with a wall and window, knock through a door from the hallway, and turn the entire (ex) garage into a pain cave!
That’s a win
Thats precisely what I look like getting in cold water
Figured this would be the best place to ask. I’m going to be turning the back bedroom/dumping ground into a pain cave this weekend and am after advice on flooring. It’s currently got a cheap carpet, which would be replaced if we were going to use as a habitable room, but no intention of removing at the moment. Therefore, need some sort of covering/matting to put under the turbo to deal with sweat and potentially some sound/vibration damping. Anybody got any examples of what to use/not use? Ta.
@SwanseaRed - See the bottom of my old post below for a sound damping option.
Cheers, Paul;.
I use one like this, had it well over 20yrs. It’s CylOps branded but I guess they are much the same. Easy to clean, move around etc.
I have just got approx 1cm thick rubber mats under my turbo and treadmill. This is on bare boards in a 2nd floor room. The there is a pounding vibration when running on the treadmill which you can hear/feel through the whole house unfortunately. It’s tolerable, but the faster you run the louder it gets. Stuff I have read suggests that you can get heavy duty rubber mats several cm thick, as used in dairy farms / milking parlours I guess to protect the cows hooves. I have toyed with the idea of getting one of those to put under the mill. After giving it a good clean, obv.
Ta. Handy for a post-workout milkshake too!
Right, I need to sort out the paincave and make some improvements. Some clutter has built up, and my bikes are always in the way. And it looks shit. And no TV when on the treadmill.
I know it’s not a disused toilet, but still I need some inspiration.
4.9m x 2.5m
2.5m to bottom of crossbeam
I suspect it will still flood once or twice this year
I usually move the turbo and TV to the weights area about this time of year

@joex - Hard to tell from the angle of the photo, but is there room to hang the extra bikes off the wall?
If you didn’t want to use brackets for the race wheels, could they sit on shelves on the wall?
Will the smaller cases fit inside the bigger ones, to create some more space in that area?
Although, my first thought was to tackle the flooding issue if that was possible.
Good luck, Paul.
I’ll give it a crack
Actually they could go with the luggage up there, the cases are all “Russian dolled” as can be.
But I need to cover that up somehow. I saw GTN put and actual ceiling in to James’ similar space. Pretty sure that makes the storage space impossible to maximise though.
have a look on Pinterest under Garage Ideas - there are loads of great ideas in there that you can tap into. I’m using it for ideas for our new gaff
You could use a pulley system similar to the drying racks and lift the bikes to upto the eaves giving you more space to work with.
I would flip the space and have the treadmill and turbo side by side facing the window and the weights at the other end. That way you could use same monitor
Yes I’ve tried to get the treadmill and bike side by side before but can’t quite manage it. And the powercage at the other end blocks the door.
I’ve slotted my bike into the power cage the last two years which works but it does mean moving things when you want to do anything except turbo.
I’ve managed to find a slot for the road bike - what kind of a hook do you use to hold it against the wall?
Has anyone done this? I’m a bit concerned I’ll bring the roof down when drilling into the cross beam or whatever it true name is. Whole garage feels like it’s a lean-to
. Did you buy it or make it yourself?
I’ve got a few spare hooks and twine, not sure they can handle 10-13kg bike though.
bought
Have a look at laundry driers as well. I know someone who used the those and managed to get 2 bikes up on the same pulley system
New one taking shape
In reality, it’s only a partial pain cave. It’s also going to be my office (as the new arrival is taking up space inside the house), and the left side which is slightly hidden is also an uninsulated storage compartment to replace the old shed that was falling down.
Gone all out with proper air con, so should be use able 24/7/365
