Can’t remember how far you’re cycling but if possible I’d be tempted to try and do a couple of over distance bikes, maybe 110K and try to hold race power near the end.
I think some faster running but that’s personal experience, if I’m running faster standalone I run faster in a race.
Very flat at this rate I’m too scared to ask permission for Cotswold 113.
I’ve asked the elevation at Cotswold here before but I can’t remember the answer - it’s not pan flat though. I’ll pick a similar virtual route. Myself and others have confidence virtual is eerily similar to real world times.
I’d have a little advantage in that the run is downhill to the park which I’d lap. That has subtle rises but essentially flat with one S bend in it.
Maybe I can convince the ice cream van man to hand me prepaid Snickers and a coke every couple of laps?
The big problem is getting from the pool. I was fricking frozen cycling back during Virtual Kona. And a fifteen minute bike transition kinda throws everything out. Before you ask, a 90km race pace ride from near the pool is impossible.
I have 5 bikes all 4-10 years old, there all basically immaculate, there all upgraded and I have 14? Aero wheels I don’t ride in the rain, and I only really ride outside when it’s sunny.
April to September ish usually, I prefer indoor riding to be honest it’s just too dangerous outside, that’s why I have pulled some good results on non tech courses… Oulton, sundowner, Nantwich. I’m pants at technical stuff IMUK was a sieve bike tome wise.
Or a race with a number ? I’m finding hyrox type stuff much more appealing than tri and I wish I didn’t feel this way. I have a few good races left in me yet SBR
The 113 is the one using the normal course. Classic is something different. And by normal, I think it’s still the post-covid adapted one that removed the small hill that was in the original bike course at Hannington
We’re now just about in June and as they say, sh1t is about to get real! I currently have 3 70.3’s booked, Copenhagen, Finland & the Steelman to try and get back under 5. I’ve also had a bit of training motivation in recent weeks with the (previously) warmer weather and light nights.
The first 2 races are just over 3 weeks away though at Elsinore then Finland. Elsinore looks like a fast race but times are probably skewed a bit due to it being a champs race and really strong field. I think Paul Lunn did something like 4:05 in M50!
A bit of Strava stalking on Matt would suggest the course is pretty accurate but a long T1. The run looks like a maze though.
Swimming is slowly going the right direction but I need to get to the pool more and do longer sessions while not aggravating my shoulder. But it depends how cold the water is as my stroke really struggles in cold water as my shoulders and arms stiffen up. Ideally I’d like to be around 36:00 for any of the races.
Bike needs to be around 2:35 so I probably need to get the TT bike working, I was looking at replacing it but there’s no P-Series anywhere in the country and I’m not sure about many others as they are very expensive.
And hopefully get the run around 1:37 or lower. Heading in the right direction but unsure about holding that pace off the bike and for 21K.
I’ve got a test race on 10th June which is a standard, I’ll hopefully get an idea of how I feel after that.
Fallback plan might be to find another race but I’ve got a few other races entered so fitting it in is the challenge.
5:01 for me at 70.3 Staffs and I faffed in transition - don’t faff in transition kids, it’ll cost ya….
70.3 Duisburg (Germany) up next in early August. Times suggest a fast course, c15 mins faster than Staffs. Risky though as furnace like heat and non wetsuit swim are very possible
Ta, bit of a bike crisis ATM, the only working bike I’ve got is the Enigma, the fortunate thing is that it’s what I’ve actually done a fair bit of training on and is a reasonable fit with the geometry for me, it’s got 303’s and tribars so not a total disaster but probably slowest option I’ve got.
Having an issue with the rear brake on the Propel, got a calliper coming tomorrow but might need bolts as they’re weird Shimano ones, and then it needs fitting!
Going to the wire with this, the TT bike is pretty much a no-go as it’ll need all the aerobars removing for any chance to get it in the box I’ve got.
