Yep same. Making my call when the alarm goes off. Can’t stomach the 140 odd mile round trip of the race is off
I seem to have opened a bottle of wine so I guess I ain’t planning on doing much of a ride tomorrow morning.
Well, I turned up, got ready and despite trying to talk myself out of it did the ride and got a good wriggle on, ended with a time pretty close to my PB from about 5 years ago, I think.
Anyone else ride or did the bad self talk voices get the better of you?
Sacked. Drive down but it failed my ‘spray on a DC’ test at about 5am.
Feels like the right choice but bracing myself for a tsunami of PRs…
Well done for riding @Duckhen
I sacked it off. Got up at 3 looked at all the weather apps. Then a club mate sent me this
I emailed the org and went back to bed.
Club mate rode a 1:40 in drizzle but I suspect it would have been much wetter for us earlier starters.
Bloody weather!!
Yup if I had further to travel I probably would not have bothered but it was OK unless you were a marshall
I was off at No.5, it was very wet and quiet. No.4 was 9th reserve and I’d caught him before 4WW turn, no.3 had no showed and I passed 2 & 1 by Red Lodge. Then there was no one until the later starters passed me on their first lap. 1st finisher and outside of my PB so not quick for the early starters

It was just so f’in great to be racing again !
Oh and our tandem trike duo at least beat the club record so that was something to celebrate
Andy that is grim when you know you are the lead rider, I had a couple of riders to chase down which was great, and off at 0630 thought I would get passed by 35 and possibly 40 (Start numbers not get passed by 35 riders!) at least, but I guess they didn’t start along with a few others.
Had an email off the organiser of the Lakes 50 tonight, he’s doing all he can to get the race on but is struggling for venues after most places won’t let him use the venue.
He also said there’s a large field but he’s hoping to get everyone in. I’m hoping a 1:58 will be enough. It’s a decent course though on it’s day. Also had the comments below, which is fair enough, at least he’s making a big effort to go ahead with it. I think a lot of people would have just cancelled it.
As a summary you will effectively be turning up, Sign on, race, sign off and go home. Items cannot be left with timekeepers, you will start with one foot on the floor, no results at the event and even worse no cake.
Sounds similar to the Shaftesbury 50.
Bring your own pen to sign in/out
No turbo etc
Yes similar to Shaftesbury which I thought was great no messing around, as I am not in a club as such it really suits me not to do the social bit.
I’ve been accepted into the 50 at the Lakes so fingers crossed for some decent weather.
Downside is that my life admin is a bit shit, and I managed to enter a 10 the day before luckily it is only a 10, I’ll see what the forecast is the 50 before deciding how much effort to put into the 10.
I was so eager to race
A 10 the day before would be bang on a hard effort with a good warm up and cool down is great prep.
If you have the legs for a 50 a 10 effort will be ideal. Do them both, hard and bask in the glory !
Agreed, it’s only 18 or so minutes of effort…
Maybe for you Chris … seriously double race weekend is awesome always a winner
Sporting course so 19
Weekend warrior Jeff
I’ve actually just realised the 50 is next weekend so I’ll have to get the TT bike out this weekend and see if I can test it during the week.
Also entered a 25 later in August, not a fast course but a decent workout.
I love your life admin skills @jeffb!
