Ha, yes they are shit
What’s the best options on aero shoe covers these days?
I haven’t actually got any and might get some for the 50 next week. I had some velotoze until they disintegrated in the garage. Something easier to get on would be good.
Have a look at rule 28 covers.
A few of the TTers in our club got some custom ordered in blue/orange for us
They look ridiculous but they’re much better quality and easier to get on then velotoze etc
They are a bit pricey too
In other news 41 starters for my 12 hour next weekend; Skipper is on the list although he may drop this with the Embrunman a couple of weeks later.
At least he should know the course now…
Wow, they aren’t cheap are they
Even the aerocoach ones are £60
Embrun now cancelled
Good luck with that hope the weather us kind
So who rode the VTTA 50 today?
My friend did 1:47 I think, said he felt it was hard but he’s in the middle of a big block for IM Talinn
Yup tough day Long 1.56.
Brutal short 1.58
Wind sapping - no strength second lap
Good work chaps, sub 2 on a gnarly day is great work.
Has anyone ridden A100/4? I’m tempted by a 100 up there on Sept 5th but never ridden that stretch of road.
No not been there
Yes, a couple of times. Nice track, should be quicker now that it’s not twice up concrete mountain.
Warning - it’s on the A50 and the last Saturday afternoon I rode on there was way over the traffic limit - I didn’t feel safe in the way I normally do.
Definitely quicker than the E2 because of the traffic pull
It is f*****ing hideous.
Do you have a death wish?
Or, do you want a fast time?
It’s coming off (being canned) as a course as soon as they convert it to an expressway, which they intend to do due to the volume of traffic on it these days.
So…I’ve done a fair few 10s, evening 25s and a couple of 100s on there (never did the 50)
I last rode it back in 2010 ish, marshalled it the same year, when someone was killed coming onto the A50 from the Etwall double RAB (you come onto the DC heading west, so if the sun is low/bright, HGV drivers may not see you as you climb up)
You will need to ride on the DC proper, as the bit to the side is littered with debris.
It’s a FAST road - there are little to no police on it, ever, it’s way wider than most DCs for two lanes, so most vehicles are easily doing 80+ mph.
There are TONNES of HGVs, and I mean LOADS.
The A50 connects the M1 to the M6, traversing the A38.
I’d say it’s even busier now the new distribution centre has been built at Donington.
Road surface is generally decent, but there’s a lot of the yellow sand-type surface (to cause noise in cars, creating awareness and also to reduce braking distance)
Every time I’ve ridden or marshalled on there I’ve ended up with a banging headache from the road hum.
Just to clarify, I know of at least three deaths occurring on that course when I was living down there.
I swore I’d never ride anything on there again, it’s far too dangerous.
ALSO…they’ve now installed a ped crossing at the McDonald’s RAB at Uttoxeter, so good luck with that one
@Blueandy - reason it’s quicker than the E2 is because you are allowed to ride the A50 on a Saturday afternoon. E2 is restricted to early doors Sunday morning, isn’t it?
Agreed
I fully expected the course to disappear or be made early start only but alas they keep getting Mr Magoo to do the traffic counts
Hmmm think it’s one to give a swerve to. I do E2 and the A11 B courses but that sounds horrific.
The E2/100 has a silly early start, first rider off at 4:45am and max field 80. All fast riders start late, so all riders off the A14 by 9:30am.
E2 used to have a fair few Sat PM events but they are now only allowed early in the season.
