Signed up for a 1/2 marathon trail race in November, was due to do it last year but it was cancelled due to Covid restrictions. Need to get my ass of the rowing machine and back outdoors on some mountain paths.
Hi, yeh Iāve done 3 green mans. long time ago. see you get buckles now, very nice. Steve Worallo is a top bloke, puts a lot of time into it. Great course.
Got an email today from Hermes running hoping that my training has been going well for their upcoming Thames Meander Marathon.
Whoops, completely forgot about that. I entered last year for shits and giggles with IM Wales being cancelled, this also got cancelled with the second (third?) lockdown.
Fortunately itās local and didnāt cost much as I donāt really have the stomach or desire to plod through a marathon on a likely cold and mucky November morning.
Thereās a half running on the same day but the orgs arenāt offering any extra entries and no swapping between events now. It seems you can drop down but will get dqād and wonāt get an official result
Iām thinking Iāll turn up on the day, drop to the half, smash it as hard as I can and take the DQ
Didnāt that lad at Bristol up the ante? Now your supposed to enter the shorter distance, accidentally run the longer event and win after realising half way through youāve still got just as much to go again
Do you have a link to the cut-offs of the Green Man FatPom? I can find the general info page, but no further details. Unless the āTime Lordsā are the also the sweepers? Not sure they had the Time Lords when I did it.
OK I see it says the final Timelord is effectively the sweeper. The 12hr cut-off for 45mile, so 3.75mile/hr or 16min/mile. Thatās a road walking pace. If itās dry then shouldnāt be a problem as itās mostly flat from what I remember, just a few light climbs in the countryside. The mud can slow you down.
Bear in mind it says you need to be under 12hr for your Green Man certificate. Steve is a great chap and is always around to help everyone get to the finish.
Had to rack my brains to remember some of the course, terrible memory The course may also be a bit different from when I did it but generally it follows the community forest path. Yes some rolling countryside but a lot of flat too inc paths where you can get the speed up
Facebook threw up a reminder that 5 years ago I was doing the Autumn 100 (also happening this weekend)
Fell in with a guy I got chatting to from about 4 miles in (as I tend to in ultras - you are going to fast if you canāt hold a conversation is my theory). We stayed together for about the next 94 miles. Worked really well - when one was having an energy dip, the other was pushing us along.
Finished in 22 hrs 41 mins which was my fastest 100 ever. Still is. Wondering if I will ever beat that time. If donāt get into Western States might have a pop at Thames Path.
Will seriously need to pull my finger out though as training in the last 2 months has been pants
