Trail & Ultra Running Thread

Not sure who’s interested but Big Dog’s backyard ultra is currently in progress, ‘only’ 21 hours so far. This year there is only 35 competitors but the quality is very high. The conditions look good so maybe they can push each other to something special.

On a related note, this week watched a documentary on the Suffolk backyard race, well worth checking out

Where would we find that?

You have to buy it or rent it from here

Saw that on the ultra running site. Is CD in?

Oh yes, though struggling at the moment. We have a live feed running here which is 55 mins of looking at trees / the empty finish funnel followed by 5 mins of people finishing and then restarting. It’s very exciting; must watch TV

It’s a shame the Brits weren’t permitted to travel to the US for this, including world record holder John Stocker. I volunteered with John back in July at the Thames Ring 250, and he was very very up for it! Still, a quality field.

Chap called Jonny Hendry who is ex Para is running the MdS next year whilst wearing a 10kg weighted vest. He’s done the London Marathon already wearing one.

Looked at Bigs Backyard Ultra site just now

10 of them still going after 191 miles - just don’t know how they do that

(i jest of course - what those athletes are capable of is absolutely unreal!)

I’m interested. Could be the most expensive 10km I’ll ever do. :joy:

All the women gone, that is a surprise. Also I see Katie Wright who was in NZ last year is there. I assume she is off back to the UK or is ready for a very boring recovery for 14 days…

Down to 3 - 270 miles

The info on the website says 250mtrs climb/lap, yet the Strava segment gives 123mtrs.

No way am I thinking of this though, I absolutely need my sleep & like my ultras finished in 24hrs.

(Strava segment looks soft  )

Hmm, that’s weird. Because looped segments on strava normally give a net figure, so you’d get a 0.

Anyway, I can definitely attest to it’s accuracy. My legs will tell you that.

Come on down. It’s a proper gentle introduction to ultras. Just stop at 8 laps (mara) if you’re scared.

The last guy DNF’d at 258 miles - harsh that everyone other than the winner is a DNF :joy:
