That’s a sobering read
Distressing indeed. Several factors in play here for me:
A lack of mandatory ‘carry always’ kit (probably stemming for the race org\s complacency in the weather for other years).
A lack of meaningful weather updates to the runners.
The fact that there seemed to be an over reliance of a distress signal, rather than being equipped to look after yourself in adversity until help may come.
A desire to ‘run for money’ compromises your ability to make smart decisions.
That shepherd is a real life bloody super hero.
Get 'er done Doug
Nice going @doug and nice phot @Doonhamer.
Go sock it to 'em.
I may pop down the road to Daer later, didn’t realise that you were on the bigger race.
It was from the Ultra Scotland FB page.
More jazz hands from @doug
I was holding the gate open for him just after Laura the asst race director took this phot of him running the only flat bit of the 100 miles crossing the head of Daer - who says chivalry is dead
Unfortunately race cancelled at Moffat due to weather
That’s a shame - how far was that into the race?
Did they supply consolation toffee?
It’s 57miles, given we had come through some pretty gusty winds on the hills and there was already worse ahead and forecast was for even higher winds and heavy rain, it was the right decision
No consolation toffee
The jazz hands was the photographer’s request👐
Course it was @doug
Well done on the first half of the race though. I’m glad the organisers were decisive and made the right call, especially after reading the article I posted earlier about that awful Chinese race.
Nice to meet you!
Having the gate held was welcome
They took the advice from Mountain Rescue, it was the right choice (not the jazz hands however, not sure that was the right choice)
Aww sorry to hear that @doug , but at least you survive, and there’s always next June (whereby I’m due to do the smaller 50 mile race that I’ve postponed for 2 years now). Great effort.
