Trail & Ultra Running Thread

I’ve been watching this too, the one guy is only just making the hour now but the other 2 look pretty comfortable well under 50mins each lap.

3 days and 300 miles passed - this just blows my mind.
It’s not like you know it’s 300 miles and have to drag yourself to the finish. Every hour you stop and make the decision to start again, you could quit anytime you liked.

I know exactly what you mean.

The number of times I ask myself during an ultra what the hell am I dining this for would be bound to coincide with sitting in a chair and just wouldn’t get up.

Perhaps the guaranteed carrot of a 5/10 min break helps motivate

I admire them but wouldn’t want to be them

World record is 337 miles - set by a Brit a few months ago (he finished GUCR the weekend before I think?)

Trouble is that you need at least 2 to get there - if there is only one of you left then it’s over

Looking at it, the current lap (10-11PM UK time I think) breaks the record?

Agreed - utterly insane

I’ve not seen this one mentioned before but it must be up there was those ridiculous mental challenged.

200 1 mile reps in a dark tunnel. approx 80% DNF. A local guy who hosts a few ultra’s and recently spent a week solo running the Lincolnshire Border (that sounds more like it!) had a go and made it to the last quarter before injury took him out

I’ve got a more traditional 100 miler coming up this weekend across my old stomping grounds. Weather looks perfect, cold wet and windy, just as I remember October in the Southern Uplands.

Heading up tomorrow, will visit my brother in Dumfries, then on to St Johns Town of Dalry on Friday. Live tracking on the tracking link thread Tracking Season - #374 by doug

Wasn’t really sure we’re to put this.

12-13 mile run in a wetsuit ?!

Think there’s a few of them having a pop?

Utter fun, or dangerous madness …?!

I don’t know the area, so have no idea what the sea is like there. But I’d say that’s pretty stupid. And I’m all up for stupidity!

Swimming in the sea at night, with no safety cover way offshore. Seems a bit crazy to me.

What time of year is it? Not sure I can see from that.

I know the area, the water comes in very quickly and there are large areas of deep mud. Doesn’t feel like a great idea and certainly won’t do it on my own and in the dark

Just catching up with the thread on ST and it seems the Japanese guy, who was looking really strong up to this point, tripped and fell on his last lap, lost consciousness for a while and being a bit disoriented came in 30 seconds late.
Who knows how far he could have got otherwise as he was well under 50mins a lap with the eventual winner up until then.

I think there are a few of them now.

It’s this Sunday !

Apparently much more running than swimming as you can stand up most of the time …??!

Did seem a bit “ near the mark “ to be honest

Hope they are all ok afterward.
