Nice one, thanks!

Hike/run up and down Snowdon today with Mrs T and the dob. Beautiful weather - lots of walkers out. 7km up and 7km down on the Lanberis Path - 1016m of vert. Still think one of the best training runs for big Alpine runs like UTMB that is anywhere near home.

Good work. I walked to Tesco to buy wine today. Not a strong effort at all.

My wine was already at home! Haha

One of the lads from our club won the local 60M ultra yesterday, nearly 30 minutes ahead of second and he added a couple of extra miles by missing a turn.

I’ve entered the 65K race on the Scottish borders in November to get another 3 UTMB points, I was hanging on but there was only 4 entries left and it’s now down to 2 and filling quickly.

Despite retiring from them in March

Haha - love it @jeffb

I may have secured authority from the board to do the North Coast race i’ve been looking at. I would rate chances at about 70-80% at the moment. They’re not happy with the proposal, but willing to accept it anyway! haha

I just need to decide which one I do, if the forms get stamped. Any opinions on here, in terms of a build up to the Exodus.

a) run the 100 (more like 110km actual distance) steady all the way. It’s a pretty tasty course, so i’m thinking something in the region of 14-16 hours

b) run the 100, but hit the first, not so hilly, 60km pretty hard. I’ve a couple of mates running the whole thing as a race, so stick with them (if i can) to Combe Martin, the start of the 50 (which is closer to 60) and then slow down for the really hilly section.

c) race the 50 hard. No mucking about, just see what i can do on that course.

d) run the 50, but not at full gas.

I think a or b would make sense leading into the big race, but it makes me a bit more useless with the family for the next day or two which is definitely a factor, as i’ll need to head up straight from work on the Friday, and won’t be back until mid Sat. The 50km would mean i’m at home Friday evening to help, but then be gone most of the day on Sat, but back for the eve.

I think racing the 50 is in my head because i haven’t roperly race din ages. So that may be swaying my thinking. though i’m not exactly in great shape right now.

You can race the 50, wait an age for me and get the beers in,or just take it easy on the 50 and keep me company

As is my whim of late I’ve swapped from long cycling (PBP) to running again… current training progression 4miles, 8miles, 13 hilly miles, trail marathon.

Third year running at this local trail event, surprised myself first year with join 2/3/4 place & 4:08, last year I knew I wasn’t as fit for it but kept close to my first year split until 20k before melting down spectacularly (4:52 &11th)… this time also knew I wasn’t as fit so let the splits drop away, was 10mins plus down on last year up to about 30km but finished 5mins up  also more clued up that 30-40k has all the climbing in it so is always gonna feel painful !

Obligatory strava…
(That plus the 20mile ride either way made for a splendid day out)

Plenty of work to do before my regular winter hit of Broadway marathon in November.

Hmm, awkward one GB, if you’ve got clearance from the Directorate you need to make the most of it, but I suspect the 50 might be more raceable for you and a decent session for the next one.

Less recovery as well.

Have you decided yet?

Jeff

I think I’ve got a plan coming together!

I worked out I can get a train to the start (very rare), then grab a lift home with one of multiple friends doing the race. There’s a train that leaves exmouth (a few miles away) at like 20.15. That means I can pick the girls up from school, sort out dinner, my wife will get back at 6ish at the latest. I can do bedtime and then disappear no earlier than 7.30.
So no extra stuff for the boss at all.

The train doesn’t get into Barnstaple until 22.15, but the race starts at 21.00. That’s where I make the most of the RD being one of my best mates! The train station is 2 mins from the official start. So I’ll just crack on and give everyone an hour headstart. That should actually make for quite interesting running and make up for not being with my friends. The first 10 miles are as flat as a pancake around the estuary. So I reckon I’ll be catching the walkers before I hit the coast. Especially if I run it semi quickly. Carry on with a hard ish 50 and then dial it back.

Should be done by around 1pm on the sat. Home before kids go to bed. All in all, I just need cover for the day. Then I can get a decent 12 hour sleep in and I’ll actually be of use the next day!

But we’ll see! A few people to get my plan past first! But I think it’s got legs!

Wow, that is really tough to make work, but that would make you a double rockstar if you can pull it off. I hope it works out.

hmmm p14… results are going the wrong way
Only first 5 under 4hrs which is very doable with more than 4 runs training.

Does anyone want a free entry to the Brecons Trail Marathon in November?

I entered it as a way of motivating myself to train again but it didn’t work and I need to face it I wont be ready and in my current state its a bad idea to try.

I can transfer the entry on Si Entries if anyone wants it. Maybe @gingerbongo as a little Exodus warm up!

That’s mighty kind of you @GRamsay but there’s no way I’d be getting the green flag for that!

I’m just going to have to wing it on the day!

Ha yes, getting Drs papers is the hardest part of any event!

Anyone else? Give me a shout if you want it if not I will put on my clubs Facecloth page and see if anyone there wants it.

And i have the green light from the board for the North Coast 100. Sweet!

Need to get fit now!
