Looked like an awesome run last night, was it all in the dark with headtorch? Bunch of nutters in the dark in the hills, not long till you’ll get arrested
yup. 11 of us out last night as well. Somehow avoided the rain as well, so it was a nice run !
I provided clues in one of the posts above.
I’m getting quite excited about tomorrow now!
Have written my list, need to pack my pack tonight as i’m not going to get a shred of time to myself tomorrow. Borrowing a mates Fenix 3, so i’ll have the route on the watch. Then i can just use Viewranger as backup on the more tricky sections.
Think i’ll stick to my summer Inov8s for this event as it’s (hopefully) not going to be wet underfoot. My current winter shoe has great big holes in the upper. FIne for a short run, but i don’t really want a shoe full of mud and grit for well over 12 hrs! I have a brand new pair in the kitchen that i’m trying to decide whether or not to keep. Massive 8mm lugs on those bad boys. Probably overkill for this event under current conditions.
Well done mate. I’m assuming you’re downloading for the nighttime? I read that 50km is pretty easy to navigate with the signs and flags? Hope so, I’m rubbish at navigating.
I’m thinking of staring in my Assos base layer with a jacket and t-shirt in the bag but we’ll see what the morning brings. Might throw in my SealSkin inner gloves.
Shoe wise, going with the SGIIs but might put some duct tape on the top bit. Starting with the Hilly Ultra Mono socks and a spare pair of same in the bag.
Good luck! Happy to PM for contact details if you like?
It’s looking pretty mild. So i’ll start out in a vest i think as the first 15km of the 100 is on a tarmac cyclepath along the estuary to the coast so i’ll beuild up plenty of heat.
Injinji socks. Merino base layer, jacket and a buff in the bag in case it cools down. I won’t need gloves at that temp.
Duct tape. Hadn’t thought about that. I could attempt a ‘repair’ on my Dynafits.
My friend is out tagging and flagging the course today, so i’ll ask him what the ground is like.
I think the back 50 is much more straightforward on the nav. But have the route on a device just in case. They’re not marked a la European style i.e. every 2ft. The trickier parts, from my study of the route, are when the coast path goes through dunes behind beaches, as there tends to be millions of tracks going all sorts of directions and you have no sense of direction, especially in the night. That and when it hits the little towns or caravan parks .They can get a bit confusing.
Good luck GB, any tracking?
No, not on this one. It’s pretty low key. Tracking is really expensive.
I might pop on and update on here if i’m strolling up a hill in the dark or somethign!
I ordered one of those Salomon pole quiver thingies yesterday. Turned up a couple of hours ago and took me another 30mins to attach to my Ultra Sense pack (left my glasses at work and those tabs are very small!).
Anyway, i’m not planning on running until Saturday but a test in the kitchen tells me that my left arm needs to be 30cm longer and have some kind of extra elbow in there somewhere.
What could possibly go wrong?
Right then. I’m all packed up and ready for tomorrow. Let’s see how this maurten stuff fares. Its actually quite bulky and heavy - a lot to pack in! Would’ve been handy if I had a half way drop point. But needs must. At least I’ll be getting lighter as time goes on.
Go get it mate. I’ve just packed my bag, I’m doing half the distance and seem to have twice as much stuff as you.
So this was my race yesterday/today. The course was flippin brutal! Started 85 mins behind the field, but managed to run through to 5th overall. Very, very happy with that considering the limited training in the build up.
I’ll try to write a race report in a few days (if I can remember! Haha).

Great run GB well done fella
My parents used to live in Coombe Martin and I would run around those coastal paths and they are brutal …would break me now!
A 42odd minute first 10km probably wasn’t the wisest start!
Well you can’t be accused of holding back!
Well that was 10hr06 of unmitigated pain. Yep, you read that right, 10.06 for 56km! I don’t think I came last but must’ve been close to it.
Faaark me dead, that hurt!
Epic stuff FP. My body is crushed
Cheers mate. I stopped the car twice on the way back in laybys to throw up. It was a good look!
Sucking on some cubes at Mums house now deciding how many 1000s of calories to put back in.
Ice + calories = ice cream. You earned it!
Just realized I left my poles at the finish
ETA. Found by the team, will be posted.
