I think this could be quite an interesting series to follow… Walmsley Part 1 Presented by Wahoo + HOKA - YouTube
Yes I watched that last night as well.
He comes across quite well - not quite as oddball as usual. Interesting to see how he goes on.
I always felt that smashing the Western States before going to UTMB 2 months later was not the best preparation - did Courtney do the double at all at both WS and UTMB in one year ?
As far as I can see on DUV she did them in consecutive years.
I think we would have nailed if we’d had todays conditions. Much cooler
This is a lovely film, I really like Lucy, she seems a lot of fun. Great views of the Larapinta Trail
Threshold Sports (who now own Endure24) are moving to a ballot for RttK and RttS.
Looks like they are reducing general entry via ballot in favour of maximising the charity revenue.
They seem to have dropped ‘Tower’ and ‘Castle’ altogether.
Surprised that they need a ballot - they seem to cater for the numbers very well
The cynic in me says that it’s more to do with pressure from the charity sponsors complaining that there is not enough revenue being raised. I get the impression they are looking for the ‘right’ type of entrant and the non charity runners isn’t it.
In the email they say they’re dropping the two races to focus on delivering quality for the Stones and Kings. I wonder if this about the (general) fall in the number of people racing? They were selling places for the Tower with 50% discount as warm up events earlier this year so they certainly aren’t anywhere near sellouts.
I agree with FP the ballot system smacks of signing up the correct type of person. Which counts me out. I don’t think I’ve been successful in a ballot, ever!
You are probably right
If don’t get into WS next year was going to try and get Mrs T to do RttS - not sure how I feel about asking friends to fork out £450 for the pleasure (min fund raising target for last year - what happens if you don’t reach this figure??)
Race to the Castle was cancelled fairly late this year due to storm damage on the coastal path apparently. Maybe not sure if the route will be doable in the near future
That’s interesting, how many editions did it have? With Covid, I reckon it could have only been two at most?
I DNF’d RttS, as I fell at 18kms badly, hung on until 55kms but it was agony. Mentally it still hurts, definitely would like to make ammends.
However RttK is just so damn easy for me. Taxi to the coach and then just run home ![]()
I’m sure it will be on the topics of chat at E24. It’s not like we have anything else to do, just go round and round and round ![]()
I’m not sure, I suppose they ask you to stump up? At least the ballot is free/ no risk. Worth a punt IMO.
It could also do with the concentration of geography. S/E based races have the population and the lack of travelling/expense not only for the racers but the organisation as well.
Diesel for trucks and stuff as to a be a consideration these days.
RttK changed format as well now I think - Cathedral said no more finishing in their grounds - now the finish is at Goodwood?
Good luck with the run home after 100km ![]()
Oh dear, that’s a blow. Race to the Ring? ![]()
So finally I did my first ever Ultra, the Dartmoor Discovery on Saturday. 52.7k or 32.7 miles but just under 4000ft (over 1220m) of climbing. It’s all road but being in Devon you are either going up or down and some of the ups are just ridiculous! Bit of an eye opener for me; after the first mile I was stone cold last in the race, only the sweeper van was behind me
. However got to 50k on 6hours and only just made the cut off at 6:18.
Superb organisation. If you want a top quality ultra road race in the UK this would be hard to beat. And they have a disco afterwards ![]()
Excellent @Sparky
Sounds like you have got the bug ![]()
Congratulations Sparky
brilliant!
Well done sparky, UTMB opens soon ![]()
