Yeah, I got a sense it was a big deal locally. I was beeped on many occasions by cars. At first I thought it was irate drivers as the roads are very narrow. However quite the contrary; without exception they are all cheering you on. The support on the course is immense.
Your mate must be an awesome runner. I was also struck by the quality of runners. You should definitely do it!!!
I am typing this from Johannesburg as it should have been Comrades this weekend. That’s now in August and I think might be my last ultra. My wife on the other hand loves them. Total respect to all of you who do these races. You are all nutters
“Despite the fact that to all appearances the man was lifeless, current medical guidelines and our team training tells us that a casualty is not dead until they are warm and dead.”
Must have been a hard call for his mate to go on and get help. Obviously the right thing but leaving your mate essentially for dead must go through your mind.
https://www.youtube.com/c/WSER100 last year was pretty good coverage - should be better this year - its all live I believe and the race briefing is live later on tonight .
So many events this weekend. Been following the Lavaredo Ultra Trail this morning. Hannes Namberger got a new course record and Mimmi Kotka is just about to cross the finish line as first woman and 27th oa.
