That photo sums it up doesnât it. Sheâs an amazing athlete - but that heat and the 5000metres of ascent - she has 13 miles to go . that last bit from memory is really tough - but at least it will be cooler .
Went for a test run. 10.5km trail/road and run/walk, 1hr10.
Quad hamstring felt âokâ I could feel it a bit and get the impression if I pushed hard it would bite me. The problem is I donât think I was going at a pace that would make cut off at Gorran Haven.
A bit non conclusive really. Or maybe it was conclusive?
Ive said before I get the impression you and I are of a similar dispossition and possibly you are catastrophising about it. Thats what I would be. doing right now.
See how you feel in the morning. See how things go. You might find its fine.
Glad youâre going to your mumâs FP. FWIW I think you should just go along and enjoy what you can of the event. Just see what you can do without any pressure. Although I do understand this is easier said than done. You did run 120km recently and youâre not that slow either, so you might surprise yourself
Thanks Anna, I think I will do that. Part of me says roll the dice and part of says donât mess about on SW Coast Path at night and possibly use race resources.
Bit of guilt creeping in but working on staying very positive today and tomorrow.
Donât feel guilty. You have every right to be there and give this event a good honest attempt. I expect quite a few will be at the start line not 100% fit.
Well you have no choice now. Get out there and just do you. Itâll either be good enough or it wonât. But you wonât know that unless youâre on the start line. Nobody will die as result, youâll just be happy or grumpy (for a bit).
I must say I was a bit inspired by @Matthew_Spooner and his Roth build and race. I couldâve easily binned off Cotswolds last weekend. Perhaps I should have. But Iâm really glad I sucked it up and started even if I genuinely didnât know if I could finish the race.
So get your ass down to Cornwall and enjoy the sun. Be brave, be bold but be sensible. Itâll be a lot cooler down there than inland anyway.
