bloody hell

Damo finished second a couple of hours ago and also beating the previous record by a bit, I think?

I know Jack Scott took a big chunk off it but that record of Jasmin Paris is still stunning, I’m sure conditions were poor that year as well and wasn’t she stopping to provide baby milk at the time?

This is a nice write-up mostly about Courtney Dauwalter but touches on how women close in on men over (much) longer distances.

Emotional finish from Lucy what an amazing first ultra for her

I’m not an expert but I think the lack of gap between men and women is more due to lack of sample size than physiological differences.

It’s easy to compare fixed races but comparing massive ultras with highly variable conditions each year makes it more difficult. The closest you can get to real comparisons is comparing distance covered in timed challenges like 6-12-24 hours. At these the standard ‘roughly 11% advantage for being male’ holds up.

It certainly needs better investigation, but even now, Paris’ time from 5 years ago is still third fastest, appreciate it’s hard to compare conditions, and trying to get the best together. But Courtney still did well at UTMB last year against men there.

She’s been pushed to third? Did I miss something? Or did Rickman get held back at a checkpoint and the time now refunded as such!

A hell of a race to pick for her first ultra

Any other ultra she does is just going to be soft as following that effort
